Instrumental Album Review - Crown of God

“Crown of God” is an instrumental album entirely produced by Adeoluwa. Firstly, I want to point out Adeoluwa claims that this project was on very low grade equipment and boasts about it often in his description on Soundcloud. Personally I feel that you shouldn’t go around telling people to listen to it hoping others will invest in your future project by using your equipment quality to gain sympathy. Especially not when artists such as XXYYXX can make projects thousands love with only a laptop and a copy of FL Studio. No matter what his motives are the main focus, however, is his music. Since this is an instrumental project I will review each song separately.

Crucifix
This is the introduction to the album and easily my favorite of the whole project. It immediately captured my attention and is a true testament to his skills as a producer. Crucifix starts to slow down towards the middle of the track as it transitions into the second half the song. I felt for an instrumental only track the transition shouldn’t have been as long as it leaves the listener wondering if it’s done or not but doesn’t disappoint when it picks back up.

Psalms: 23
While this song isn’t as creative as the first one it is still very well done. The song Psalms: 23 goes in a different direction from the louder, angrier Crucifix. Instead of the more flashy synths in the first track he went for a softer loop that gets carried by the 808s in the background. Overall it was good but still lacking.

Halo
I really enjoyed listening to this one. The Rift in the background looping throughout the song was very addictive and the alternating synths compliment the song well.

God We Trust
I felt this is the track halo should’ve been. By this point in the album its apparent how skilled Adeoluwa is and this one really shows. This is also around the time I wish he would attempted to put his vocals over these instrumentals because I really would’ve liked to see what kind of album would’ve been made with his beats.

Blxck Caesar
I really like the vibe this track gives off in the first half. However, when the beat switches I feel it really ruined it because the two different sides contrast heavily and the second part seems like an unnecessary edit of the first part of the song.

Eden
Nothing really stands out here just very above average beat.

Heaven or Hell [Interlude]
When I think interlude 4 minutes doesn’t really come to mind. This track is long and not because its length it just seems to drag on and on and I felt it was the worst one of them.

Mark of the Beast
This song was one of the very creative ones that stood out. On first listened I wasn’t very impressed but after a second look it really grew on me. I really wish he didn’t make as many beat switches in these songs it really isn’t necessary and it wasn’t executed that well in my opinion.

Mankind
Not much to say about this it was really well done and is easily one of my favorites from the album.

 (BONUS) Aphrodite
I don’t really see why it’s labeled as bonus because this is better than half of the songs on the album. It could’ve easily replaced a few of the songs. It works well as an album closer if you include it as the official last track

Overall I give Crown of God a final score of 7.5/10 mainly due to the lack of diversity and issues stated the individual song reviews. I believe Adeoluwa is talented and I look forward to hearing future projects.
