Arrow is a show on The CW and I hate it. If you follow me on twitter you already know I live tweet the show every week, but that doesn't change the fact that I hate it. There are so many reasons I hate it, I just watch it because I'm not doing anything else on Wednesdays at 8pm Eastern Time. Let me explain.
Comic book fans, cover your eyes. Arrow also has no problem using rogues from other heroes. Can you imagine my shock when Ra's Al Ghoul became an important figure? I hate this. I'm interested in Green Arrow villains, like Clock King and Catman. How dare the show creators add interesting characters with intriguing back stories simply for better story.
That's not the only reason either. Arrow alters unlikable characters. Count Vertigo is probably one of the worst villains in comic book history. Why would a royal count have it out for the Green Arrow? Why would an inner ear problem give him the power to affect people with vertigo. I don't know and that's why he's such a stupid character. But, he is a Green Arrow villain and should be in the show, just as he is. However, he isn't. The show doesn't mind going the opposite direction of the comic books. In the television show Vertigo is now an underground drug lord who mass produces a drug called vertigo that is taking hold of the city. A drug lord is way cooler than an old man with a balance problem, or that's what Hollywood wants you to think.
Vertigo isn't the only character forced to undergo a TV makeover. Brother Blood is no longer a creepy cult leader. Now he's a bad man with pure motives. They've added a level of complexity to the character by giving him a motive that is praise worthy . Brother Blood is seeking to repair and improve the city after an event I shall not spoil. Politicians aren't helping, so he takes it into his own hands. While he does a lot of bad things for money, he's not keeping it. He's using it to rebuild the city. I'm torn, do I want him to do the bad things he does, but I understand why. These Arrow producers have done a great job of making characters fit into the world.
Sadly the producers didn't stop at just the rogues, they had the nerve to alter the good guys. Diggle is highly entertaining in the television series. He didn't even exist in the comic books until a few months ago. They had the nerve to add a character to the story. There was no need to add Diggle to the story, Olly is not supposed to have any friends. Why would they give him a friend. On top of that Diggle actually suited up as Green Arrow a few times in the first season. Adding a character for no reason is just disgusting.
They didn't stop there, they continued to makeover characters. Recently they added The Flash Barry Allen to the show. These big Hollywood guys were bold enough to change Barry from a middle aged forensic tech. That's what made Barry boring Barry. Now Barry isn't even old enough to drink, he only practices chemistry to help him stalk the vigilante. How dare they make him interesting. Boring Barry should have remained boring.
I keep saying Green Arrow, but that's not right. They haven't called him that. They haven't even called him Arrow. They've called him vigilante and hood but never arrow. Clearly he's somehow the only vigilante in the city. Also, until the midseason finale he didn't have mask. All he did was put on black facepaint, not even his whole face, just the eyes. I'm not sure how people weren't able to tell it's Oliver. It's not like he's all over the news every day. But that's not even the worst part.
HOW DARE THEY, change Oliver Queen. They changed his back story. There were never many details about Oliver's time on the island but now we're learning something new every episode. The worst part is they made these parts all up. Sure Oliver's backstory was always vague but they shouldn't expand on it. That's what made Green Arrow boring and therefore it was perfect.
These Hollywood producers are probably proud of themselves. They've turned multiple boring characters into an exciting TV series but they shouldn't be. They've ruined the sanctity of a boring series and now they're going to continue since they've been stomping Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the ratings. I'm disgusted. I'm going to keep watching every week just so I can tweet about how disgusted I am.
