Okay, I'm really not one to complain about formatting on BD/DVD, but when it comes to Star Wars, that's a whole different story. I mean, classic movies shouldn't be cropped. But sadly, it is.
Enough with the cropping!
When I first opened the Star Wars Original Trilogy BD/DVD set I got for Christmas, I couldn't wait to watch it. I was having high hopes for the franchise. But sadly, what I saw disappointed me. When I popped in the DVD, I was like "alright, this is what happens when you don't have a HDTV." But, when I popped in the Blu-Ray, I was disappointed. It was 16:9 format (which is cropping). Now, I play my Blu-Rays on my PS3, and that's not even hooked up to an HDTV. But there's an option where you can stretch the image to 4:3 (which is fullscreen). For some reason, my Star Wars Blu-Rays didn't want to do this. With my Spice and Wolf Blu-Ray, it's stretched to fullscreen. But not Star Wars.
Here's the BD/DVD I got for Christmas
No matter what, we'll never going to get Original Theatrical Versions of Star Wars again. I know I sound picky, but with Star Wars, I'd rather have those kinds of releases on Blu-Ray. If you're going to crop the DVD's, fine. I don't care. But Blu-Rays? Come on. We need some kind of decent release. I heard the Star Wars: Complete Saga is the same way, but also has problems. When I get that $80 set (which is unlikely for now), I will review that. But for now, this set is okay. I say if you like Star Wars and do not own any movies from the Original Trilogy, pick it up. For any BD/DVD's from the Prequel Trilogy, I have no clue.
