Blerd Film Club: Pootie Tang

A black film led by Louis CK. That would be something, I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. Well, it happened, almost. A small division of Paramount green lit a film called Pootie Tang in Sine Your Pitty on the Runny Kine with Louis CK directing. Then it got picked up by the main studio and CK was fired. Although he still gets credited as director it's widely acknowledged that Ali LeRoi is responsible for the final version of the film that we see. What a film it is.

We're introduced to Pootie Tang as a child, a young man with a speech impediment. Additionally "grown ass women," are constantly attracted to this child. We can only assume he was molested multiple times by the age of nine. His mother dies while he's young and he's raised by his father a man simply known as "Daddy Tang." One day he gives Pootie the family heirloom, a belt. Daddy Tang then dies after being attacked by a gorilla at the Steel Mill he works at.

Despite his speech impediment Pootie becomes famous for singing and doing public service announcements. Pootie somehow has a positive influence on society so the evil corporation LecterCorp sends Dirty Dee to take care of Pootie. Yes, Lecter, like Hannibal. After a LecterCorp executive gets control of Pootie's belt his life falls apart.

His friend Biggie Shorty suggests he go on a trip to find himself. Pootie ends up in the country. There the local sheriff decides Pootie will marry his daughter. Pootie is a terrible farmer and manages to grow one stalk of corn. It dies. He has a vision of his parents who tell him the belt isn't special, but Pootie is. Dirty Dee arrives to kill him and is now wearing Pootie's belt. Pootie beats them up and decides he'll return to the city to fight crime.

Pootie shows up to the opening of Pootie's Bad Time Burgers being opened by Dick Lecter of LecterCorp. Pootie and Biggie Shorty are forced to fight an army of Pootie Clones and then Lecter. Biggie Shorty and Pootie go get married while Dick Lecter quits to become an actor. Dirty Dee remains dirty.

Oh, this movie is terrible. I don't have any saving grace for it. Maybe the fact that we see some really good actors and comedians in these odd roles. Reginald Cathy was a great actor with a career spanning decades even up until his death. In this film we see him as Dirty Dee. Somehow they managed to get Missy Elliott to participate.

This is one of those movies that is so bad, that you can't help but laugh when watching. Honestly, if you took this movie seriously you would believe it should have never been made. It still probably should have been locked in a warehouse somewhere instead of being released to the masses. This film is worse than the inside of Dirty Dee's shoes. Still, you can't help but laugh at the ridiculous nature of the entire thing.
