CLC - Black Dress Album Review

CLC have released their 7th EP Black Dress after their pre-release of "To The Sky". Last August they released their 6th album Free'SM. Its no surprise that CLC would release another album so soon since comebacks have been slow so far this year.

The album's main title track is "Black Dress" with the colorful and dance heavy music video that is sure to get you dancing. The song is a catchy Pop tune that's nearly impossible not to love. The song carries nice transitions from the chorus to the hook and verses. Choosing Black Dress to start off the album was a great choice.

"Like That" follows up but it has a twist to it. When the song starts it has a very calm manor to it that one would expect a simple mellow yet cute pop song. When the beat comes in it instantly changes to a heavy bass oriented track with boasting raps from Ye-eun who like Eun-bin have written lyrics for the album. The hooks and chorus are flavored with the rest of the bass heavy EDM number. This song doesn't have too much lyric ability as the emphasis is on the beat but the voices and rapping are on point for the remainder of the song. This track is best played with good quality headphones or speakers.

The album starts off strong with "Black Dress and "Like That" but once "Distance" stars the album takes a turn. From this point on the album is very smooth and mellow which isn't bad but it completely loses its robust energy gathered by the opening tracks. "To The Sky" and "7th" end the album yet I feel as if I've missed something. The last 3 songs are good, I enjoy them but they're lacking compared to the first two songs. These songs almost feel like throwaways from both "CRYSTYLE" and "Free'SM". Compared to those albums this only a decent showing.

"Black Dress" is a good album. It starts off strong and though it loses its opening momentum, it continues to deliver good music. Though I love the project it is a weaker showing compared to previous projects. I wish it were longer as it clocks in at only "16:38". To give a rating, I would rate the album as solid 3/5 with tons of enjoyment.
