Minzy - Minzy Work 01 Uno Album Review

Former 2NE1 member Minzy has released her first solo EP since leaving 2NE1. Now there has been a considerable amount of hype around this album because we finally have Minzy releasing solo work, Jay Park and Flowsik have features on the album and Minzy has been everywhere hyping it up herself. The fact that she is also a former 2NE1 member also helps a lot. I've been a fan of 2NE1 for years and I've been wanting a Minzy solo forever but I was a tad bit disappointed by this album.

The albums starts with the lead single "Ninano" featuring Flowsik. I don't understand this beat. The beat is doing too much and has zero form to it. It just plays with  couple of added elements to it but it doesn't do anything special. The beat is also a beat that's hard to sing over, or at least eh way Minzy sung it. Her singing here was very mediocre. Not even Flowsik could save this song. After that we have "Superwoman" which is a great track. The beat isn't special but its good and works with what Minzy is doing here. Overall a solid track.

"ING" another solid song and "Flashlight" with Jay Park was cool but I wish Jay had a bigger role. Flashlight is my favorite song so far. The next track is "Beautiful Life" which should have closed the album instead of a second version of Ninano but with an English verse by Flowsik. That ruined the flow of the album as it was ending so well. Beautiful Life would have been the best way to end the album with its ballad powers, Minzy's singing was amazing and the composition was great. Ending the album off with Ninano sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall I thought this was a decent album. I was expecting more or well better produced tracks. The first 3 songs are following the same theme but with different lyrics on top of them. Ninano itself is very lackluster and the ending of the album is very meh. This album isn't a 2/5 but its barely a 3/5. I think my expectations were shot but this is the first project and she should be growing from here.
