I Love Easy Mode and You Should Too

Easy mode, the mode for children, the mode for people who aren't real gamers. There's no trophies for easy mode and yet people still play it. Easy mode doesn't display the real artistic value of the game. There is no good reason an adult should be playing a game on easy mode. These are all things we've heard before, despite all that, I've still come to love easy mode recently.

So, I make YouTube videos, I learned to just play on easy mode after Sleeping Dogs. Do you know how many times I died and had to restart missions? I don't know either, but that's when I decided to just roll with easy mode on the next game. That's a lot of video editing to cut out all of my death scenes. Skyrim is a little different because once you get some good equipment you'll carve through them like butter no matter the difficulty unless you want to make it hard for yourself, why would you do that.

Sure, with a higher difficulty you might be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment. Maybe you'll even be rewarded with a trophy. There's rarely anything beyond bragging rights that comes with beating the newest game on insanity, soul crusher, murder your feelings or whatever they're calling it these days. Sure, you beat the game on a harder difficulty than me, but did you have more fun than me? Probably not because you were too frustrated with the third boss.

YouTube isn't the only reason I've fallen in love with easy mode. I'ma grown man out here doing grown things and my time for gaming is scarce these days. I don't have time to be stressed out on the same level for 3 hours. I got things to do and people to see. Maybe I need to turn on easy mode so I can finally beat the game in a timely fashion. I'm about to go change Arkham Knight to easy right now and run through the game because it's taking me too long to beat it. I don't have time to deal with boss battle cheese, I need to do maintenance on my 401K.

Easy mode is just a good way to relax after a long day. Nobody wants to come in from a long day and fight through a long mission. You want to come in, kick off your shoes, get comfortable and slice through enemies like a hot knife through butter. Think about all the stress you go through on the daily basis, now, add in the stress of making sure you've crafted the correct armor to face the next boss and do you have enough crafting materials for the next one. I don't want to grind, you don't want to grind.

I'm not saying easy mode is the best thing ever, because it's not. I'm just saying people don't respect easy mode like they should. You all let J. Cole going multi-platinum with no features distract you from the fact that there are more relaxing ways to game. I'm not here for a challenge. I'm here for the story, the art, the fun and the shenanigans. Besides, easy mode for you is just hard mode for NPCs, so you still technically beat the game on hard.

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He also plays classic arcade games on The Cabinet. You can also check out his playthrough of Sleeping Dogs or Skyrim
