Flame Of Recca Volume 3 Review: Suit Up, Get Beat Up

Chapters 20-29

Volume 3 of FOR did not disappoint. The volume was filled with action and it was not as fast paced compared to the previous volumes. Here after Recca wakes up in the hospital, we find out that Mr Tatesako was kidnapped as well but his wife is in the hospital and she will be fine. Recca decides to take on Kurei and his gang in order to get Yanagi back. Sadly he thought Kagehoshi was behind it but  she wasn't. She does tell him where to go after trying to convince him not to go, but Recca is semi retarded. Death can't even stop him. Fast forward to the Koran compound, we find out that Kurei is the adopted son of the ugly Mori Koran who does whatever he needs in order to make hi money. But there is one thing he doesn't have, immortality. He wants to use Yanagi because of her healing factor and Tatesako was kidnapped because of his knowledge of the Hokage Clan. See, knowledge can get you killed.

We get that Kurei is insane because, well, just look at his face. But he's as ruthless as he says he is. He's using and even brainwashed the children he's found, Koganei and Reiran into doing his killing. He killed Seki after losing to Domon's super punch which was actually strength from the Dosei Madogu which allows him enhanced strength. Then he tried to give Seki's head to Recca. Also, Seki was a mass murderer, THIS MAN HIRED A MASS MURDERER TO BE A GUARD. From the start, Kurei is shaping up to be a sinister villain. Or maybe he just gets triggered a lot. What a snowflake. So after eventually defeating Reiran, Seki and a stone wall that pretty boy Tokiya destroyed after showing up, they finally reached Kurei.

Kurei confirms everything that has happened up till this point including the fact that he and Recca have known each other for the past 400 years. There's more which is revealed next volume but I'll let that go. So currently we have Yangai strapped to a chair, Tatesako chained to a wall, Recca and crew fell in a hole and Tokiya fighting Koganei. Tokiya seemed surprised to find out Koganei was hiding back. So I thought this was a good volume but there were things I didn't like. Reirain or Ganko if you prefer, her backstory is understandable but how she got her is weird. She stared at a mannequin that looked like her mother until one day Kurei walks up and says "You wanna see a mannequin move?". What the hell? So he's just been stalking this girl until he had enough courage to ask her to join his killer cult? Very weird. I also didn't like how she easily became apart of Recca's crew. I know she's a child but she's too easily persuaded,

The dialogue here was pretty unbearable for everyone that wasn't Tokiya or Kurei. Besides them everyone else just feels lame when they speak. There is n o difference in their personality from just their speaking. I hope it gets better but for now they all just sound automated. Still, I thought this was a solid volume. Pacing was good, we good confirmation on some plot points and were introduced to a badass in Kurei. Hopefully next volume is better but keeps the pace the same. Now let me leave you with this question, if a creepy man like Kurei offered you power, would you take it?
