Lunella Lafayette is a very smart girl. In fact, she's already one of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe, and she hasn't even left elementary school yet. You may think that the name Moon Girl came from her being a superhero, but it didn't. Lunella got the nickname from classmates because she would rather spend time day dreaming in class than working on their daily lessons. You can't really blame her either because she's just way beyond them, sadly The Future Foundation isn't around to help with that anymore.
Lunella had an interest in Kree and built a machine to track down some of their technology. She managed to find an Omni-Wave Projector under the Brooklyn Bridge and took it home with her to study it. One day in class her teacher accidentally activated the device. This opened a portal to Dinosaur World. The New Folk, a half man half ape species came through the portal with their leader Thorn Teeth. They were being chased by Devil, the dinosaur companion of Moon Boy.
Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur had been heroes among some of the New Folk and many throughout The Savage Land. However, when they returned home Thorn Teeth had murdered Moon Boy with help of some of the New Folk. Devil the Dinosaur was out for revenge which is why he chased them through the portal. Devil became distracted by Lunella's backpack but she was able to lure him to an abandoned section of the city using a drone she had created.
She explained to Devil that she needed the Omni-Wave Projector since it was Kree technology. She wanted to use that to keep her from undergoing Terrigenises that would activate her Inhuman powers. She didn't want to change because while some people get really cool powers, others turn into dogs that can teleport and that's a risk she didn't want to take. However Thorn Teeth's followers managed to snatch the device from her.
At home her parents saw her on the news with a dinosaur and grounded her. Lunella didn't take this well so she skipped class to work on some projects in her secret lab below the school. She also hid Devil down there. However, the school was evacuated when some kids were playing with matches. The two of them went to work rescuing students of the school who were in danger of being hurt by the fire.
Amadeus Cho, the current and totally awesome Hulk, rolled up on the scene assuming Devil had caused the problem. Amadeus was there to take Devil into custody because capturing monsters is a part time gig for him. The two tried to take on Hulk but he easily defeated them. He called Lunella a smart girl but told her that she can't fight the mists. He took her to her parents and chained up Devil to lock him up.
Lunella decided to sneak out at night because parents just don't understand. Her parents really didn't recognize that she's a genius, let alone one of the smartest people alive. She headed to her lab and hacked into the NYPD computer to learn where Cho had dropped Devil off to. Lunella got an alert that the terrigen mists were coming near and she calculated they would miss her, before she took off to rescue Devil.
Lunella broke into the museum where they were holding Devil. The rescue was going well until the NYPD noticed and opened fire on an elementary school student. Devil easily broke out of the cage and the two managed to escape. Lunella explained they were now considered even and Devil was free to go. Devil refused to leave her and had become attached to her charm.
The next morning Lunella's mother took her to school because The Yancy Street Gang had taken over the area, yes that Yancy Street Gang.The two were attacked by more of the killer New Folk. Lunella's mother tried to protect her but instead Lunella used the gadgets she had created to defeat them and get her mother to safety. Lunella's mother suggested that they skip school and just go home but Lunella said she had other things to do and went to school, to work in her secret lab.
Lunella created a plan using a spring loaded boxing glove to retrieve the Omni-Wave device. The duo tracked the New Folk to a roof and defeated them retrieving the device. Lunella let Devil chase them across the Manhattan bridge proving that Manhattan keep on making it, Brooklyn keep on taking it was done once and for all. The alarm Lunella had created went off while she was alone on the roof showing that her calculations were wrong and the Terrigen mists would not miss their location. Attempting to avoid the change she held her breath and plugged he nose so she wouldn't inhale the mist.
When Devil returned he found nothing but her cocoon. Devil but the cocoon in his mouth and carried it back to Lunella's lab and curled up in a ball around it to keep her safe. When she emerged Lunella couldn't figure out if she had any powers. She returned home while the NYPD, her parents and Amadeus Cho had been looking for her. She was grounded for eternity, because parents just don't understand.
However, little did they know Lunella would be sneaking out at night to continue her heroics without her. While her parents didn't notice the heroics, the Kree did. A new student named Marvin transferred to her class. Marvin was actually a Kree named Mel-Varr who called himself Captain Kree. He wanted to arrest all the Inhumans for deserting the Kree empire, but since Lunella is just a kid he thought she'd be easy to catch.
Lunella was enraged when Marvin decided he would argue with her about who should lead the class LEGO project. The teacher forced them into a group and Lunella got so mad she didn't realize she was in the body of Devil. Meanwhile, Devil was in Lunella's body and confused by the whole situation. That's her power, swapping minds with other creatures that she has a strong bond with. but she needs practice.
After some hijinks in which Lunella's body was restrained in the nurse's office because she was going crazy and the NYPD lost track of a whole dinosaur while Lunella was in Devil's body they got back together and swapped bodies. Back in control Lunella tried to apologize to Marvin but swapped bodies with Devil again, but this time they found their way back together quickly.
Later that night while on patrol Lunella and Devil were ambushed by Captain Kree who tried to capture Lunella but was kicked into the distance. The next day at school the two argued all day. That evening they got into another fight and Marvin damaged the bridge for the Q Train. Khamala Khan came in and saved the people in danger before giving the two of them a lecture on what it means to be a hero and making sure that they don't endanger innocent people making sure that Lunella would go on to be a much better hero.
