The X-Men have a long history of calling mutants to use their full potential to make the world a better place. Mutants like Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, Rogue and even Magneto have graced their ranks. But, what if I told you there was a member of the X-Men that had no powers and still contributed to the team in and out of missions.
Charlotte Jones always had it in her to serve people. As an adult she worked as a trauma nurse for a local hospital. She met and fell in love with a police officer George Jones. Together they had a son named Timmy. One night while Charlotte was working at the hospital George was walking Timmy home from parents night at his school. The two were caught in the middle of a shootout between two gangs. Unarmed, Greg was shot and killed, meanwhile Timmy's spine was severed and he was left paralyzed. Eventually Timmy would walk again after years of surgeries and physical therapy.
After that night Charlotte joined the police force herself believing there was more she could do more if she was on the streets helping people. With the household income now cut in half she was forced to move into a one bedroom apartment with Timmy and her mother in law.
Jones was riding along in a police helicopter when a news helicopter crashed into it. This destroyed both helicopters and left Jones plummeting to her death. She was snatched out of the sky and rescued by Archangel who had recently broken free of Apocalypse's mind control. She continued to have more bad luck and was ambushed by a street gang the very next day. Again Archangel was there to save her.
She was later abducted by psychic vampires known as Ravens. They had saw how Archangel was attracted to her and they planned on forcing him to feed on her energy, turning him into a vampire and making him into their new leader. They forced a psychic link between the two to force feed him her energy. But, Charlotte is no slouch and managed to free herself as well as Archangel. He stated that it was the courage inside of her that broke the link and allowed him to go free.
Archangel starts coming around more often and bonds with Timmy after taking him out flying. He then starts showing up to fly Charlotte to and from work every day. Iceman and his girlfriend Opal catch them on one of their dates and tease Archangel about the relationship but he doesn't care. Sadly, their relationship is not meant to be as a series of events put a strain on it.
Mutants from Genosha had come to New York to capture a fugitive named Jenny Ransome. They entered into a conflict with Jones and her partner who had been tasked with protecting Jenny. Soon a shootout broke lose and the severely under powered police were defeated with Charlotte's partner being killed in the confrontation. She still followed the mutants into the sewer but they attacked when she was discovered. Luckily she was saved by Forge who gave her an X-Men uniform that would help protect her as thanks for her continued help.
Archangel then joins the X-Men again and spends less time with Charlotte than before and eventually they just agree to be friends. During this time she was also promoted to Detective. She used her new connections and informants to provide information to the X-Men and Cable. When sentinels kidnap her son after the relationship with mutants was noticed she's forced to give up the X-Men's secrets in order to save him. But no harm came of the X-Men because Charles was a step ahead on this one.
Despite being a detective Jones continued to work with the X-Men on cases such as the Gene Nation Massacre and apprehending Neo, Tartarus and Elysia. As she moved up the ranks she became somewhat of an unofficial partner to Bishop. After M-Day when most mutants lost their powers she works with Bishop to help mutants trying to cope with the world now. One mutant is Hannah Levy a resident of M Town. She had a forked tongue like a snake and was only able to digest insects, just a reminder all mutant powers aren't great. Hannah believed that insects were going to attack her for revenge until Charlotte and Bishop managed to calm her down and get her some help. This is just one of the people they helped.
Next we see the duo visiting a prison to check on Shi'ar commandos that had murdered most of Jean Grey's living relatives to prevent The Phoenix from ever returning. During their visit a riot takes place and the commandos attempt to escape. She and Bishop manage to captures most of them before she's knocked into a interdimensional portal. She awakes a few days later in the hospital where she learns Bishop had managed to rescue her. That's the story of Charlotte Jones and how she became an X-Man with no powers.
