An Open Letter To Old Black Nerds

Dear Old Black Nerds,

I respect you. I admire you and I'd like to thank you. Because without you we wouldn't have the courage to be who we are. You paved the way for us and broke down gates so that we would no longer have to deal with gate keepers of nerdom. It's still hard to be a black nerd but your experiences made it so much easier for us and I'd like to sincerely thank you for that.

I'd like to thank you because a lot of you introduced younger generations to various aspects if nerd culture. You gave us an opportunity to be ourselves and saw that we maneuvered through with much more ease than you were ever allowed to do. I respect you more than you should ever know.

But, there are a certain few of you that I and many others have grown weary of. The few that question our blackness because we didn't have "real struggle," like you did growing up. The kind that sit around attempting to keep the gates closed for others, that they once kicked open for themselves.

I don't like you and I don't respect you. When you tell us that we need to "stop posting click bait" I see it as hate, especially when you have a big ass swastika on your front page. Because a joke article about why "Wonder Woman is Lame," just doesn't stack up to World War II. You're the type to leave long comments on our podcast about why saying the word "nigga," means we can't really be nerds. At this point I've grown tired of even entertaining the bullshit.

In the past you've gone on for half an hour on your podcast about how you hate us, and I just used the soundbites in youtube videos. In the past you've questioned if we were really black and people laughed at you until you blocked us. In the past you've attributed things to us that we would never say and when the truth came out you just blocked us and everyone who called you out on it.

But I'm tired of it. I can no longer argue with old black nerds who wish to keep the young people off their lawn of pristine comics they no longer care to read. I don't have the time to hear about everything that you hate about millennials being present in blerds. I just don't care anymore. You're old, hypocritical, and bitter about things I didn't do to you. There were people I actually used to look up to, but now I can't stand the sight of because I know how they can be assholes now.

The idea that you can't make a joke is silly. I like to make jokes and I'll keep making them, I no longer want to waste hours explaining a joke to people that they have no intentions of getting. I just do not have the patience to deal with these cranky old bastards.

Old black nerds, I love you and really do thank you for paving the way. Most have you have been nothing but nice and I'll continue to welcome your support and support you in return. But to the few, fuck you.
