Black Supervillain: Massacre

"You will need much more than toys to stop me"

Issac Zavimbe - Massacre

Issac grew up as a child soldier like is brother David. With David they quickly became the most skilled soldiers in General Gravely's army. However one day they could no longer be soldiers. After a battle they protected the women in children in the village they had just attacked. Swearing that no one would harm them. When questioned about their actions Issac yelled back at Gravely. Gravely considered this a sign of insubordination. Gravely beat Issac and threw him off a cliff. This led to David leaving the soldier life for good after he assumed Issac had died.

However Issac survived although seriously injured. He lived in the wild for a period of time before he was found by Josiah Kone. Kone was a member of The Kingdom, Africa's own version of The Justice League. Kone took in Issac and trained him to be a better fighter and strategist. His purpose for this was to turn Issac into the ultimate killer. He wanted to use Issac to take revenge on other members of The Kingdom after they had broken up decades prior.

Issac's first mission is to kill the former member of The Kingdom known as Earth Strike. Issac murders the old man easily. He leaves the body in the city of Tinasha located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. However Batwing locates the body and begins an investigation into the murder.

Later David would return to his job at the police station to find Issac attacking the officers. However Issac doesn't kill David. He simply informs him that he is late for work before stabbing his own brother threw the chest, missing vital organs. Issac then went on to hunt down several other members of the kingdom.

Issac is in the middle of attacking Thunder Fall when he is next encountered by Batwing. He does express his surprise that David survived implying that he is aware of his identity. During the fight he explains that the murders are in retaliation for an atrocity that the Kingdom committed. Eventually Thunder Fall dies of blood loss, with the job completed Massacre escapes Batwing. He then goes on to kill the former hero Dawnfire.

On one occasion Issac sent hundreds of men dressed as Massacre to attack the new museum dedicated to The Kingdom. The men seemed to be after Josiah Kone, but we all know that's a lie. When Batman and Batwing defeated all of the impostors they realized the real Massacre wasn't even there. Issac was actually on his way to Egypt to kill the man formerly known as Steelback.

Batwing manages to fly there in time to intercept him. However he had already locked Steelback in a burning bus. The two fight and Issac laughs as Batwing asks if Massacre was really General Kieta, the man who had originally brought them to Genral Gravely. Assuming that Steelback was dead Massacre arrogantly retreated. Leaving Batwing to discover the Kingdom's secret.

The Kingdom sacrificed close to 50,000 people and disbanded in silence so that the Democratic Republic of Congo could gain it's freedom. They could have saved the people but it would have meant the DRC could not gain freedom. Batwing felt disgusted but he shared the info with Batman who had tracked down Staff and Razorwire who were living in...wait for it... Gotham.

Now with Batwing, Batman, Nightwing, Robin (Damian), and Batgirl involved searching for Kingdom Members in Gotham, Massacre had to move fast. When they finally caught up to him he had just finished murdering Staff and Razorwire. The crew attempted to fight off Massacre who was also controlling one of Steelback's mech suits.

Eventually Batwing gets the upper hand while others battle the mech. He punches Massacre in the face demanding to know who he is. Massacre only laughs, knowing the truth. Eventually the mask falls off and David realizes that Massacre is Issac. When the mech suit explodes, Massacre escapes i the chaos that followed.

Thoughts: Now the story of David and Issac never really got an ending after David quit the Batwing job. But both are still out there. Issac escaped and David stated he couldn't fight African crime as a bat so he's still a hero somewhere. The story is actually one of my favorites. Sure Massacre is painted as the villain and he does do some villainous things but is he really the villain? He was getting revenge on The Kingdom who allowed a madman to escape and kill 50,000 people. He didn't kill all the police officers, just the corrupt ones. It was a lot, but a lot of the police force was corrupt. So was he really a villain or just a hero who went about things in a different way?
