Black Superhero: Bedlam

Bedlam: Jesse Aaronson

Jesse was born as the second child in his family but he became an orphan around age 5. His older brother Chris was a mutant with the ability to release a psionic scrambler. This would disorient a person and cause them to lose control of their bodies. Jesse looked up to his big brother Chris until one day they were on a road trip with their family and Jesse realized Chris had always been a sadistic little asshole. Sorry, no nice way to put it. Chris used his powers to disorient their father. This caused their father to crash the car. The crash killed both of his parents.

Jesse and Chris were put into separate orphanages. Chris had ways to contact Jesse and he never bothered. This basically left Jesse alone. While in the orphanage Jesse was also the subject of bullying from the older kid.  The depression of his parents dying, his brother being in jail and bullying at the orphanage led Jesse to have a mental break down which eventually got him committed to a psychiatric hospital.

While there Jesse's mutant abilities started to appear. A doctor in the facility saw this as his way to reach new levels of fame. The doctor wanted to write a book about mutants and was going to use Jesse as a test subject. He forced cruel tests, experiments and punishments on Jesse just to get more information for his book. Jesse was close to having another mental breakdown.

Luckily Lucas Whyndam of the Mutant Underground Support Engine. (MUSE). Whyndam left Jesse with Dr. Derek Parsons. Dr. Parsons took Jesse under his wing and raised him like a son and Jesse viewed him as a second father because he was glad that there were good people left out there. Dr. Parsons educated Jesse far more than a school could have and taught him creative ways to use his powers. This is good because Jesse hadn't been to school since his parents died. MUSE taught Jesse some basic fighting and trained him as a scout and taught him the basics of stealth. He soon became the most stealthy member of the team and was invited to participate in missions. He also learned how to hack various types of computer systems, interrogate people and lead field operations. He still missed his brother so at age 19 he decided that he would leave MUSE behind and search for his brother Chris.

Jesse recruited the former spy Domino to help him in return Jesse would tell Domino where to find the sentinel that had implanted a microchip into her brain. She only agreed because Jesse promised to show her where the sentinel was first. Jesse went along with this and they arrived at Aguilar Institute. Domino was captured promptly. Jesse managed to escape.

Jesse is a good guy and because of that nobody gets left behind. He went to the X-Factor team for help. X-Factor is a strike team made up of mutants. They managed to rescue Domino and kill her captor Gryphon. Jesse also used his mutant powers to destroy the microchip that limited her mutant ability.

Domino kept her promise to help Jesse find his brother. She learned that their parents were actually analysts for the National Security Department(NSD). The two visited Jesse's parents former supervisor. The old man was mumbling incoherently but Domino noticed a mysterious man watching them. They broke into that man's home later. Once inside they were attacked by Magma and Paradigm. Jesse managed to knock both of them out.

However they were captured by Jesse's brother Chris. Chris was now calling himself King Bedlam. Chris had known that he was a mutant since he was a child. His parents had managed to protect him from a research facility but once he killed them the NSD took him to a research facility which is why he was separated from Jesse. At 13 he ran away leaving the minds of NSD agents broken like he left his father. This included the old man Jesse and Domino spoke to earlier.

Jesse heard all of this and when Chris offered him a role on his team called the New Helions, Jesse still accepted. Jesse enjoyed his time on the team but didn't question why the missions were so weird. Eventually he learned that Chris was not to be trusted. The New Helion Team was actually a villain team.

Chris had been planning to revive Armageddon Man and force the US Government to pay him one billion dollars ($459621371.16 today). Jesse attacked Chris but Armageddon man had already been revived. X Factor was able to stop Armageddon Man and Jesse pulled a victory out over Chris. Jesse was once again close to a mental break down but X Factor offered him a position.

Jesse stayed with X Force even when they were turned into a black ops team. During that time he got another power upgrade. This time he could use them from a much longer distance. Originally he needed to be touching a person, then he needed a few feet, now he could use his powers as long as he could see you. Then it got real.

When Xavier's school was attacked for the umpteenth time some of the mutants were nailed to crosses and crucified. Sadly Jesse was one of those mutants. It was a sad ending for him after a pretty bad life. However Jesse got that black character "We've got nothing left for you." ending. They crucified him and never mentioned he didn't die, for almost a decade. He just retired from heroics. The next time he was seen was leading a riot against Proposition X that would require mutants to register with the government.
