Black Superhero: Aliyah Bishop

Aliyah Bishop

When the X-Men were stuck in space they spent a long time traveling with the help of Shi'ar Princess Deathbird. Eventually she fell in love with Bishop. Deathbird became pregnant but didn't tell Bishop because she didn't want him to give up his life on Earth for her. She kept the pregnancy secret until he returned to Earth. She gave birth to a baby girl and named her Aliyah. Deathbird raised Aliyah alone. Deathbird surprised most people because nobody expected her to be a good mother but she was. Deathbird raised her until her sister Lilandra went crazy. Deathbird was forced to leave Aliyah with her bodyguard Lifeguard.

Deathbird failed to stop her sister Lilandra and the planet was destroyed. Lifeguard sacrificed himself to make sure Aliyah got off the planet. Aliyah was put on the Starjammer ship and was sent anywhere but there. Starjammer also held the mind of Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel, as the A.I.

Aliyah stumbles upon a meeting between the Kree and slave traders on an abandoned Shi'ar planet. Aliyah broke up the meeting but was attacked Siryn and Nocturne, who were X-Men being controlled by the slave traders. She managed to defeat the two of them before the planet was invaded by Skrulls.

The Skrull were there to stop the Kree from taking a magical cocoon. The cocoon was the reason the Kree had come to the planet. Aliyah grabbed the cocoon as a bargaining chip and ran. When she was cornered the cocoon opened and a bald woman stepped out and saved her. The bald woman collapsed on the ground after that. At that point The Brood also arrived on the planet. What was this some kind of bad guy convention where everyone wanted to kill each other? Aliyah grabbed Nocturne, the bald woman and got back to her ship while a full scale battle started. Sesperate to escape the planet so activated the ship's warp drive. This set the atmosphere on fire and blew up the planet.

When the bald woman woke up it was The Phoenix, Jean Grey. Aliyah decided to warn the Shi'ar empire about The Brood returning and the possible war. Phoenix told Aliyah that the X-Men on Earth were also under attack and had almost been defeated. When they discover a crashed ship Aliyah steps out to check for survivors. She's attacked by an enemy much faster and stronger.

The enemy turns out to be her mother Deathbird possessed by a Brood Queen. Aliyah struggles to fight her mother despite knowing it's a Brood Queen. Aliyah is wounded and finally decides to fight back. Aliyah shoots her mother in the head with an energy blast. Unknowingly the Brood Queen had infected her with an embryo.

She goes back to the ship and doesn't explain what happened since she's already under control of The Brood. When they finally reach the Shi'ar Throne World she meets her Psylocke, Tessa and most importantly her father Bishop. They had come to rescue Phoenix from The Brood. The Brood Queen used Aliyah to attack Xavi (Son of Lilandra and Professor Xavier). She was possessed by the Brood Queen but he was possessed by Cassandra Nova, who had forced him to kill his mother and broadcast it to the planet.

When they finally confronted Nova Aliyah was freed from the Brood Queen. She also managed to distract Nova long enough for the X-Men to finish her. Nova had actually been behind all of the events leading up to this moment pitting everyone against each other. With Aliyah being the last member of the Neramani royal family she was made Queen of The Shi'ar Empire. Bishop decided to stay beside her and develop a relationship with the daughter he never knew about. He became the Imperial Chancellor.

  1. Question. Do any black characters ever have sons? Hmmm

    1. Some do. Blue Marvel has two sons. One is stuck in a dimensional rift & the other is 2nd in command at A.I.M. Amazing Man II is the son of Amazing Man I. Shadownman is a title passed from father to son, the current one is picked up the series where his father left off. Before Cataclysm there was a Marvel timeline where T'Challa and Storm have a child. If you count Lucius Fox as a hero, and you should, his son is the current Batwing. There just aren't a lot of black heroes having kids. Majority of them are pretty young.
