Black Superhero: White Tiger

White Tiger: Kevin "Kasper" Cole

You know it's weird how when a multiracial person does something the one drop rule comes into effect. Then suddenly Barack Obama is the first black president and no long the first multiracial president. But, we're not here for that. We're her for superheroes. Well, one superhero who has that problem is Kevin Cole. He's 1/2 Jewish and 1/2 black. But he's way blacker than Jewish. He's so black he's African. Trust me on this one.

Since he doesn't have black in his hero name his dad is a police officer known as Black Jack Cole. Marvel really has a way of sliding prison into almost every black characters background. Kevin's dad was framed for selling drugs when he refused to sell drugs. Kevin finished up without his dad around and eventually became a police officer. Then he got his girlfriend pregnant and she was kicked out of her parents house. This forced her to move in with Kevin and his mother. His mother couldn't work so Kevin was taking care of three people and a baby on the way. Kevin got the nickname Kasper at work because he was a light skinned black man unlike his dark skinned father. I'm not even joking. I feel like this may have been the inspiration for a few Tyler Perry movies.

While sneaking around his sergent's home he finds a torn up old Black Panther costume. Of course it's bullet proof and way lighter than the bullet proof vest he wears for work. So of course Kasper steals it and wears it to work. Eventually he's approached by a corrupt cop named Sal Anthony. Kasper refused to help him and because of that Kasper's squad is set up after Anthony blows their cover to the Bridges 66 gang. Everyone is hospitalized except Kasper who was wearing the Black Panther suit he stole. Kasper was suspended for not wearing a vest. That means he wouldn't get the promotion he needed to keep feeding his family.

Rightfully pissed off Kasper loaded up two guns. Put on the Black Panther suit and raided a warehouse meeting between the Bridges 66 and corrupt cops. He didn't kill them all but he hit a lot of them. He uses the information he gained in these raids to boost his status as a police officer in hopes of gaining promotions. He also turns in crooked cops without getting labeled as a snitch. At the time the real Black Panther was missing and taking a break so for all intents and purposes Kasper was Black Panther. White Wolf (Black Panther's Brother) approached Kasper and offered to help him become a real hero and provide money for his family. Kasper refused the help because he had never heard of any White Wolf but White Wolf kept offering him help. At the same time he accidentally finds the real Black Panther who is living the projects and given up on being a hero and life and general, but Kasper thinks T'Challa set him up as a successor.

When Sal Anthony was set to be caught by Internal Affairs he point them at Kasper and they almost got him. In the end T'Chall and White Wolf helped him again out of nowhere. Now Kasper really thinks T'Challa set him up to be a successor and T'Challa denies it again. However, as Black Panther he promises to help find Sal's son because he has a heart. After teaming up with Falcon Kasper realized he wasn't anything more than a guy in a stolen and damaged Black Panther suit and couldn't keep up with real heroes. He goes down to his local public library and reads all the books on Wakanda he can for the price of free.

He challenges T'Challa to a Rite of Ascension so that he may eat the Heart Shaped Herb that gave T'Challa his abilities and made him the most powerful Black Panther. T'Challa laughs and offers to train him but he won't go easy. Kasper learns that T'Challa isn't event the chieftain of Wakanda anymore. The villain Killmonger, who T'Challa killed has somehow revived and was thus granted the role of chieftain again. Pissed off again Kasper left to challenge Killmonger and never spoke to T'Challa again.

Killmonger turns out to be a pretty cool guy in the end. He's not so much a villain as he is someone who didn't agree with T'Challa and went about it the wrong way. He told Kasper something that T'Challa accidentally failed to mention. Kasper would die if he at the heart shaped fruit because he isn't from Wakanda. Killmonger tells Kasper he actually does have potential as a hero. He makes him an honorary member of the Panther Cult and gives him the mantle of White Tiger. He also haves some of those Wakanda scientist whip him up a genetically modified heart shaped fruit that would agree with his DNA.

Kasper manages to find Sal's son. It turns out that the boy had been staying with T'Challa. T'Challa really had been trying to make Kasper a successor and he was working with White Wolf and even Killmonger. Once T'Challa found out about the boy he took him from the Bridges 66 Gang who had kidnapped him from Sal. T'Challa offers Kasper the role of Black Panther and he rejects it. Kasper continues doing what he's been doing. Beating up drug dealers as White Tiger and using the information to make big bust on his day job. That's when everything changed.

Kasper was approached on his day job by James Rhodes. Yes, that James Rhodes. Once again Tony Stark proves to be a dick, he's not there to help Rhodes and he doesn't even lend him a suit. Thus, Rhodes didn't have a War Machine suit at the time and his sister had been murdered in the Mog. The Mog was an area controlled by the Bridges. It was where they ran their Money Train. Even without his suit Rhodes was running through the Mog dropping bodies left and right. But, Kasper just saw this as his big bust for the promotion. Meanwhile Rhodes had also tricked Josiah X who had retired and a former spy named Junta trying to get reinstated into helping.

Seeing how desperate Junta was Kasper let him take the credit. After seeing how Rhodes had been handling himself Kasper decided to stop using real bullets. He switched to gel bullets that don't even break the skin. Making him a full blown hero now. All that, and he still couldn't get that promotion, he was still broke and couldn't feed his family of 4 now. But, he was still happy. This really would make a great Tyler Perry movie.

  1. Never liked this character. Often I wonder why is there always a need to put something white in all things Black Panther (no prejudice intended). There's White Tiger, Man Ape has the White Gorilla god, even Bast the panther god has been given a white facelift. Many times I've seen people mention Moon Knight whenever Black Panther is discussed. Its almost as if there is a subconscious need to dilute the blackness of Black Panther's world. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do find it interesting.
