The Streak Is Over

Brock Lesnar pulls Undertaker in for a 3rd F5. He goes for the pin and the ref counts 1...2...3. The ring bell rang, there was a universal gasp. For the next five minutes there was nothing. There was no sound from the three commentary teams, there was no sound from the crowd, there was no sound from Brock Lesnar or Paul Heyman and most of all, there was no streak. We all wondered was there some error as the 21-1 sign haunted the building. Then, Brock Lesner's music hit an we knew that it was real.

For 22 years the Undertake remained undefeated at Wrestlemania(He skipped WM X), one of the greatest records in the history of professional wrestling. But there will be no 23rd year. The streak has come to an end and many are visibly upset by this. But I'm not. All good things eventually come to an end. The 1972 Dolphins went undefeated, the 1972 Dolphins wen 17-2, but they won the Superbowl yet again. Did that tarnish their record? No, it didn't. Records mean nothing when an entire legacy is considered.

People have been saying this loss tarnished the Undertaker's legacy, but that couldn't be further from the truth. For 22 years one man was the highlight of pro wrestling's biggest night. He may not have headlined every one of those shows, he may not have been Mr. Wrestlemania, but he is a legend inscribed in the halls of Wrestlemania and the hearts of wrestling fans alike. Did he not give you some of the best matches of the last two decades? Are you not entertained? Is that not why you watch? To be entertained. I've been entertained and so have millions of others. But how can one loss tarnish the Undetaker's Legacy? 7-Time World Champion, 7-Time Tag Team Champion as well as a Hardcore Championship and several independent championships. That can never be taken from him. I know there's a lot of people out there blaming HHH and Vince McMahon for this. But you have to realize, he signed off on him. This was his choice. If he didn't think it would destroy his legendary career, why should you.

I said I'm not upset the streak ended, I'm not. I'm upset at who ended the streak. The truth of the matter is nobody gained anything from this except Brock Lesnar. The fans don't get to see a new star rise. Brock is already established. What's worse is we'll see Brock the Monday after Raw and won't hear from him again until it's time to build for Summer Slam. I'm okay with the streak ending, just not a part timer being the one to end it. So what I've done is come up with a list of other candidates.

Roman Reigns: It's no secret that everyone is big on Roman. The fans are big on Roman, the corporation is big on Roman. There's no doubt that Roman will be a big star within the next year or so. Beating the Undertaker would have helped catapult him to the top where everyone wants him. While I name Roman, it's also not out of the question to have Seth Rollins or Dean Ambrose win either. Every member of the shield is a star in the making. Instead of defeating The Undertaker, they had a match with "Corporate" Kane and the Old Age New Age Outlaws, that did absolutely nothing. Seriously, The Shield took Undertaker out, plus their recent tension. The feud was already set up for a fatal four way.

Dolph Ziggler: You may not remember but he is a former World Heavyweight Champion. While he may stay in trouble for being outspoken in interviews, it's no doubt that the fans love him. If Dolph could keep his mouth shut, there's no doubt he could be a top star instead of being in the running for Midcard King right behind Kofi Kingston.

Bray Wyatt: He is the eater of worlds, master of the microphone and he's got the whole world in his hands. Bray Wyatt has somehow become the most beloved heel in WWE and he spent Wrestlemania doing the job to John Cena in a match that did nothing to forward either person's character or career. We were all following the buzzards and Super Cena shot them right out of the sky. You can't tell me Bray Wyatt vs Undertaker wouldn't be thrilling to watch play out.

JTG or Zack Ryder: You can say what you want. JTG was was a member of Cryme Tyme, the most over tag team for five straight years and he never even got a run with the tag team championships. You can say Zack Ryder managed to get a push just from the internet and even a feud with John Cena. Sure, JTG hasn't had a televised match in over a year and Zack Ryder is back to being a jobber with no fan reaction. But I'll say this. Both men are athletic and capable in the ring. They aren't masters of the microphone, but they're passable. And most importantly, they're both there every night, rain, hail or snow.

Ending the streak wasn't WWE's mistake. Choosing Brock Lesnar to end the streak was their mistake. I named a few superstars who could have done it, but there's tons of possibilities. Big E. Kofi Kingston, Cesaro etc. The WWE is full of stars. They just don't want to take the time to develop them. Instead they'd rather place their bets on a slowly dying supernova.
