D-Frag!: Review (Ep 4 & 5)

They're the Band of 14 Devils!!

After last time's eventful festival, we're back at the Game Dev Club HQ with Kenji and co. Since the real Game Dev Club (Takao's) and the "fake" one (Roka's) now coexist, Takao insists they come up with their own name for the club. A name to her liking obviously. After Roka, Minami, Chitose, Sakura and Kenji reveal their crazy suggestions, it turns out that Takao prefers Kenji's over the others. Such tsundere! Takao needs to work on being subtle!
It is all for nothing though when Minami, teacher and member of the club, reveals that there is in fact already an official name for the club. "Game Dev Club (working title)", which greatly amuses Takao. She runs off mockingly laughing only to come back and apologize to Roka. And Kenji for some reason. I think she likes him!
After the intro, Kenji and his friends (the Kazama Gang) are walking down the road after school when they bump into some delinquents blocking the sidewalk. Kenji, the delinquent he is, speaks up and tells them. That's when Ataru rushes in out of nowhere (he's good at that), and warns them saying they're dealing with the "Evil Orchestra of Fourteen". Apparently these notorious villains are known for the horrible crime of hogging music arcade games. Well, I guess someone has to do it. Evil Orchestra of Fourteen (EOF for future reference) ends up beating and capturing the Kazama Gang.
We're now at the Game Dev Club (working title) (Hope they come up with a better name though.) where the ladies are occupied with the "Scramble for Porn Mags In Space" board game. I don't think I need to tell you how this game has one of the most interesting premises of all time. Their game gets interrupted when Ataru rushes in to inform everyone that Kenji was taken by the EOF. After an amusing back and forth discussion on whether they should save him, Roka excuses herself as she "needs to go to the bathroom." Asking Chitose and Sakura to escort her reveals her true intentions even further. Operation Rescue Kenji!
At the EOF hideout(?), we see the Kazama Gang members are tied up. When they search his bag, they find a copy of the "Scramble for Porn Mags In Space" game (Kenji didn't know he had the game on him! Damn you, Roka!). Upon this game's discovery, we get to see what an interesting bunch the EOF is. They want to play the game but it's limited to four players. EOF has 9 members so the boss "cleverly" suggests they all split into two groups of four each and battle for the right to play. He did that thinking he'd be included in a group, but they were extremely quick to exclude their own boss. Kenji comes back mentally after reminiscing on how his entire life shaped up to this peculiar point. He tells the boss that he should use his authority, which actually irritates the boss. He goes to the board game and destroys it. Kenji who had grown more attached to the Game Dev Club was pissed off by this and broke free, using brute force. After headbutting the boss, the girls arrive to kick some ass!
Game Dev Club vs EOF. As expected, the EOF don't stand much of a chance. Despite their ambition to overthrow Chitose (Student Council President) and Roka (Secret ruler of the school, "The Ultimate Darkness! Roka, sugoi!), they lose. The last ditch effort from the boss to take down Roka as she isn't looking gets blocked by Kenji (awwwww) before he delivers the finishing blow.
After their adventure, Roka decides they should play the space porn mag game to celebrate. Kenji can't believe there's another copy. Roka playfully replies, speaking the utmost truth: "Games evolve every day!"

What?! Your Little Sister Makes Your Lunches?!

We're instantly thrown into in game "footage" of "Scramle for Porn Mags In Space". Seriously, find the man who came up with this and reward him! The thing is, Kenji, after hearing some of the game rules, doesn't want to play (which is understandable). You need four players though and Chitose isn't taking no for an answer. Keiji tries to get Takao to play instead of him. Takao (T for Tsundere) ends up agreeing (Takao is only there because her own club isn't having a meeting today). It's in vain though because Roka reveals that the game has been updated. Now 5 players can play so they're all in! After some hilarious interaction between the club members over character selection for the game, including Rock-Paper-Scissors, it's lunchtime!
Kenji is full of pride when he overhears a conversation about how the Kazama Gang took out the EOF. However, the two boys having the conversation conclude that it's no wonder why the Kazama Gang became the Student Council president's underlings. Before Kenji can explain himself, the girls barge in and suggest having lunch together with him.
Some teasing occurs as the girls question why Kenji brings lunch from home even though he's a delinquent. Chitose then shows how powerful her network of information is as she reveals that Kenji's lunches are made by his little sister! Kenji really just wants to eat so he can finish before class. The girls keep on teasing (they even eat his lunch!), asking why he's concerned with class since he's such a badass delinquent. Kenji says that he usually wouldn't care but that now is a special case. Because of the tutor: Shaun Konekone, who saved Kenji's life! Flashback time!
The Kazama Gang and Ataru are kids and stuck on top of a burning building with no way out (There's a useless superhero up there as well). They end up being saved by Shaun Konekone. Kenji was the only one to refuse help as he didn't want to be indebted to a stranger. Shaun epically replies that there won't be a debt as long as Kenji promises to be helpful from now on. Kenji is fine with that and the story ends.
Back to the present where everyone is touched by the moving story... Well, not exactly. They weren't listening. Funabori, a classmate of Kenji, gets some spotlight as the girl responsible for keeping the classroom clean. You see, Kenji refused to eat something that had fallen on the ground, calling it filth. Chitose thought that was rude towards the girl. I'm sure Funabori will get more screentime in the future. She seemed to have a thing for Kenji.
At the very end of the episode, Tsundere Takao strikes again, offering a sandwich because Kenji didn't have lunch. Shaun spots them and once again (I'm loving this dude) drops an epic line saying: "Enjoy your youths, young ones."

    1. I see your point. I review the content of the episodes rather than giving my opinion on them, right? I choose to do it this way until the series hits the halfway point or when it ends. Then I'll give my overall opinion on the series as a whole. However, you can find my initial opinion in the previous review.
