So I really didn't expect the episode guide/rants/diary that I kept as I watched season one of Hunter X Hunter to be popular. It was really popular. It's been one of the top post for the last two weeks. Makes no sense. So what should I do about it? Do it again for season 2, duh.
Episode 27
So the tower has multiple levels and you advance by winning fights and earn money for winning. That's actually a pretty cool premise. Gon advances to the 50th floor automatically with a simple push. Not to be out done Kil uses a single chop to advance to the 150th floor. But he doesn't want to make Gon feel bad so he goes to the 50th floor.
There they meet Daniel-san... I meant Zushi. Wrong Karate Kid. Zushi is the only competitor the same age as Gon and Kil so of course they become friends. The first fight of the 50th floor is Zushi vs Kil. Kil doesn't take it easy when he realizes that Zushi is stronger than he looks. He actually used enough strength to kill Zushi but only won based on points. During the fight Zushi used a technique similar to the one Kil's brother used on him. So of course Kil tries to make Zushi spill the secret. Zushi's sensei Wing. promised to tell only if they would study under him to which they agree.
Episode 28
Back in the living room of Wing's apartment... dojo, they move the furniture and Wing begins to explain the ability to Kil and Gon. I'm going to teach you.
Nen: The ability to control one's own life force. There are four basic principles to Nen
*Ten: stops a persons life force from leaving the body. It creates an aura that defends from physical
and emotional attacks.
*Zetsu: Stops life force leaving the body. This allows for easily tracking others and even healing
*Ren: Allows the user to release large amounts of life energy to increase physical attributes
*Hatsu: Allows a user to project their aura on others.
See, I R so smurt. I taughted you about Nen. After the lesson Wing notices that Zushi's aura is unstable. Zushi asks why he didn't give Gon and Kil the full truth. Wing explains that they aren't his students so he can't trust them with the full truth. This rests Zushi soul. This kid is so dumb. Wing is obviously an evil bastard.
After running through the competition with out a single loss and using only one attack in each battle Gon and of course Kil make it to the 200th floor. Yeah, that shows how tough the competition is here. Two twelve year old kids ran the gauntlet with ease. As they approach the registration booth for the 200th floor they're stopped by someone using strong Hatsu and projecting their murderous intent. Wing appears behind them. With the stereotypical anime glasses glare that means he's evil. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.
It wasn't Wing being all evil. He actually came to save the boys from non other than the man you all love to hate, the killer clown, the jester of evil, the clown prince of murder, the strongest fighter in the series so far, none other than Hisoka. He won't let Kil and Gon pass until they can walk through his aura without dying. Problem is they only have 4 hours to register for a fight before they're kicked out. Wing promises that he can teach them in four hours if they work hard. Hisoka laughs and uses the wall for target practice as they walk of with Wing.
Episode 29
Wing explains that there are two ways to learn Nen. The way he and Zushi learned, opening their pores and controlling their chakra. This took Zushi four years and he's a prodigy. Wing dodged the question of how long it took him. The second way is to force all of your gates open and learn to control it before you die. This is the method they have time for. Wing opens all their pores and they successfully manage to control it and use Ten. Just good enough to make it through Hisoka's barrier.
Now, I know that scene may have seemed really cool to some people and to some extent it was, but Togashi is once again reusing scenes from Yu Yu Hakusho. Genkai basically did the same to Yusuke during the dark tournament. It was cooler then, but stop recycling Togashi, you're above this.
Anyway, the two make it to registration in time. Although they have a 90 day grace period for training Gon signs up for a fight the next day. Despite the fact that Wing told them not to fight for 60 days. Kil is a good boy and signed up for a date at least 60 days later.
Gon starts his fight with Gido the next day. Honestly I don't want to say much about this fight other than Gon got beat down but it's okay maybe he'll turn it around in the next episode.
Episode 30
Nope, Gon got beat like a runaway slave. Gon got beat like a child who stole something. Gon got beat like Rodney King. Honestly Gon was outclassed on every single level. And on top of that, he broke his arm again. Gon is so stupid. Kil told him that, then twisted his arm as a lesson. Good job Kil, keep the knucklehead in his place. When Kil finishes, Wing rushes in and lectures him. They play sad music and expect us to feel bad for Gon but don't, he was stupid.
Wing makes Gon promise to only practice Ten for the next two months. He offers to teach Kil about other forms of Nen but Kil says he'll just practice Ten with Gon.
Meanwhile on the other side of town, Kurapika is still broke. He's also looking kind of drugged out and dirty. He should use that Hunter's license to get a bath and some food. He's rejected for a hunting job. Apparently this isn't the first, or second or even third time. Kurapika is down on his luck. Kurapika leaves and walks through Haiti, post quake. I don't think that's where he was but it was a pretty rough area.
The following is not cannon: Coming soon to a theater near you, one man's journey leaves him desperate for work. With no options left he turns to hunting the most dangerous prey, man. But when he's out of options will he turn to the dark side? Kurapika In The Hood, coming soon. Thank you for indulging in my silliness
As he walks through the city he gets bumped into by a homeless man. The man takes his hunters license and Kurapika challenges him to a fight for it. The homeless man says "Take it from a veteran, you don't want that." But continuing from Gon's hard headed mistakes. Kurapika fights and gets beat down with out laying a hand on the man. The man tosses the license to Kurapika and then promises to teach him Nen. I wonder what Leo is doing in med school? Probably not getting beat up.
Episode 31
Two weeks later Gon's arm has healed and Kil has tickets to Hisoka's fight. But Wing says Gon isn't allowed to go. Of course Kil goes with out him. Kil didn't do anything to get in trouble. Kil sneaks backstage to meed Kastro, Hisoka's opponent who seems fearless. He's impressed that Kil was able to sneak past the security. However he told Kil that he should have disguised his presence before he reached the floor. Kastro says Kil shows great potential and this gets him really excited. I can't blame him. Kastro is pretty cool and nobody has ever told Kil that he's good at anything. Kil says he doesn't even want to fight. Kastro says that's a lie and he wants to fight him one day when he's stronger. Kil says he doesn't want to fight but his face and body language say other wise. Kastro laughs at him, pats him on the head and goes off to challenge Hisoka. He's gotta be confident, nobody has been so calm going against Hisoka.
The match begins and Kastro dominates Hisoka using a double created with his Nen. He manages to rip off both of Hisoka's arms. Kil is so excited about this for some reason. He really looks up to Kastro. The episode ends mid-fight. With Kastro and Hisoka both feeling confident. Why is Hisoka confident? He's missing both arms and hasn't landed a single attack.
