Flame of Recca Volume 26 Review: Fire Beats Plants, Did Pokemon Teach Us Nothing?

Chapters 248-257

We star off the volume in the most bitch ass way. Gaou, the chocolate feine that once preyed upon Domon, is back but this time he's facing Kaoru. After creating a huge structure made from Stone Kaoru is having problems until he finally realizes a lesson that Kurei taught him. Through this he is bale to beat him rather easily. Gaou succumbs to his desire to eat chocolate then Kaoru Talk no Jutsu's him to his defeat. Gaou went from savage to tame with just a few words and I can't. I'm fine with Kaoru not killing him but for him to easily give up his resolve like that made no sense. Just shows that once again, none of these villains are strong, at all.

Domom is still looking for Fuuko who has finally been tricked by Kirito. After giving chase to her she falls into a pit. Obviously this isn't the end to her because she has the fujin and can fly but since what I just said is true, her falling and letting Kirito escape makes no sense. I'm convinced she only fell so that the story could advance. We switch over to Kagero who I forgot came with them. She actually got some screen time taking out another weak opponent but seeing her do at least this was cool.

Recca and Mokuren finally face off but not before Kukai interrupts and takes on Mikoto who loses to Kukai with one punch and is presumably killed by Mokuren when she confronts him. Mokuren, along with Koran Mori and Kurei are the only real villains in this series. Everyone else is trash. Kukai gets taken out by Mokuren and in the next volume we will see Recca finally fight Mokuren. The crazy thing about this, Mokuren actually got stronger. It makes sense that Kukai got his hand broken when he punched the plant fortress that is Mokuren right now. Despite all of this, Recca could easily end all of this if he stopped being a dumbass. All he has to do is use Setsuna to burn this man alive. But this series doesn't like killing serial killers. They like forgiving them for some odd reason.

Despite the volumes shortcomings which are just a reflection of how fake deep this series is in general, It was an entertaining volume nonetheless. I actually glad, I really though Kukai was going to die but he just got his hand broken instead. Too bad his entire crew actually are dead though. While everyone is fighting, Yanagi is possibly dying by the hands of the test tube baby known as Aoi. I wonder is history will repeat itself. I wonder if Yanagi and Recca will die here.
