You know the guys who always talk about their band? The ones who go around school attempting to gain some popularity for it? They practice in their parents' garage and constantly get told to turn that noise off. Then everyone from the school finally hears them play at the talent show and they're so filled with anticipation. Only to hear screeching guitars from missed chords and the lead singer is missing the pitch because they never actually practiced. They just perform songs that sound and Smells Like Teen Spirit? Yeah. We know.
Luckily we don't get that here. Zero One Complex walks a delicate line. They have a sound that is familiar enough that anyone can ease into it because they've heard something similar in the past. Conversely they're also working to create a sound that is different and their own. It can be difficult creating a sound that's all your own while not becoming off putting to people and only time will tell if Z.O.C. will be able to pull it off. The biggest issue is there are moments when the vocals dip below the instruments and makes it hard to distinguish lyrics. This could simply be a production choice I'm just not fond of or an easy fix. Either way it's a good first track for a band to lead with.
