Album Review: The Game - Blood Moon

The Game is a polarizing artist. Most people either love him or hate him. Either way, his success can't be argued. 2/5 of his albums are platinum in the united states. 3/5 are at least gold and the last two are pushing close to gold. Game loves to brag that he's 12 14 times platinum world wide. Jesus Piece was Game's 5th album and was praised for returning to the formula of his first two albums. The main criticism came from the fact that Jesus Piece had a feature on almost every track. How did Game respond with Blood Moon? He stuck to the formula and got even more features for this album. Hype for this album began when he dropped the intro track and first single "Bigger Than Me" taking aim at the XXL freshmen list and many other artist. Showing people that he was callous as ever.

The thing about Game albums is that they always start extreamly hard. When I say that I mean it's hard beats, hard lyrics and the gangster rap and disses that Game made a name for himself with. The first track is "Bigger Than Me" taking aim at XXL Freshmen and other new artist. The second track is "F.U.N." taking aim at G-Unit after 50 Cent rekindled the feud at recent concerts. Instead of a whole track dedicated to them like the past, Game shows he's a bigger man now. Leaving his response to "G-Unit had a reunion" followed immediately by the hook of "Fuck you niggas." The third track on the album is called "Really." It's a track that proves what many have been saying for a long time. Soulja Boy should just make beats and do hooks. The song itself also features Yo Gotti, 2 Chains and T.I. It also features one of my favorite quotables "Don't you fuck with Kendrick, don't fuck with Problem, don't fuck with YG, I'm Mr. Miyagi, Daniel San, I handle them." It's just cool to see Game moving from trying to destroy the competition on the West Coast to protecting the new generation of West Coast rappers.

Throughout the album Game proves he's still the man of 1000 flows. Game uses the flows of many of the artist featured on tracks with him. It's always nice when he shows this versatility. While in previous albums he would do this with any artist from any song. But this album features almost every artist from his Blood Money so he doesn't do this on every track. Speaking of features Game made good choices when selecting the guest for this album. At a time when people are tired of Lil Wayne he simply has Lil Wayne sing a hook. He also gets a hook from Bobby Shmurda. If Bobby Shmurda doesn't has a career as a rapper he's got one delivering dope hooks. He also managed to get verses from both Freddie Gibbs and Jeezy. The features were enjoyable but there were only 4 tracks that had no features.

Game wraps up the albums like always, songs reflecting on his current life position. He's stopped doing drugs except for xanax. He's still trying to get Tiffinay to take him back. He's more focused than ever on life. Game is one of the few artist that still puts 3 verses on a song but the last song and the outro is called "Bloody Moon," featured just one verse. It begins by reflecting on his parents leaving him at a foster home. It then moves on to the story of his father raping his sister when he was 7 and she was 11. Game starts to get emotional and blames himself for running away and not helping her.

Year of The Wolf is an album where Game tries to show his growth as a person as well as reflect on issues from his past. It's still just as full of name drops as it is quotables like "I do the shmoney dance with this shmac, you better do it too or get shmurdad." Jesus Piece was Game returning to form and Blood Moon was Game attempting to improve on it.
