Going Old School...sort of

Ever look back at a certain game you played, and think to yourself, "Man this game really takes me back." So you just let the feeling sink in a bit. Usually my next step is to play the game right then and there, not just yet, lets take a field trip, about 6 months back.

It was June 11, 2013. Nintendo show cased a bunch of new games coming to Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. A great presentation I would say. One game in particular that peaked my interest was none other than Super Smash Bros. 4 or U or whichever you want to call it. The trailer was great, the gameplay was great, the visuals were just in awe, you can literally look at it for a while. Not only that but the fact its going to be available for Wii U and 3DS! Hell yea! You think it couldn't get any better. Then suddenly you see this:
Who could it be? A character not seen in Smash Bros? A returning character? Then you see this:
I think to myself. "Is that who I think it is?
*fangasm for a few minutes* Holy shit, Megaman joins the battle!
Hell yeah! One of the most beloved video game characters ever is going to be in Smash Bros.
Fast forward to recent times. I get these flashbacks of the Megaman games I played back in the day. Then it hit me, I want to play it again. So I turned to the Xbox Live Arcade, and there lies one of the games of the Blue Bomber, and that game happens to be Megaman 9.
Yep, Megaman 9 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and the Wii. First boot up, you get hit with a familiar sound effect. 8Bit, yeah they decided to go old school, make it as simple as possible and I have to say, I love it. First game of the series in HD and the classic 8bit music we all love, this game makes you feel you've been taken to a simpler time in life where it didnt matter about your high score or your 9th prestige, but its about the adventure! Thinking you're the Blue Bomber himself taking on Dr. Wily and his 8 robot masters.

Like the classic Megaman games, it does give the challenging feel, many say its the hardest or its the easiest, but still a fun game to play. It retains the game mechanics that the other classics had to offer, except no charge shots or sliding  this time. A bit of a loss but it helps with making the game more challenging and more enjoyable. MM's dog Rush comes back to aid him as a jump coil, and even a jet board. It wouldnt be a Megaman game if it wasnt challenging. Like its preceding titles, this one is challenging. Timing, memorization, and strategy is key. All the stages are well thought out and challenging, as literally everything is out to kill you. The enemies, mid bosses, spikes, that perilous jump, yes its all there. The music has a very nostalgic feel to it, all the songs are catchy and sound great, totally something you can listen to for a while, it truly sounds like a classic Megaman game. Every stage ends with a boss battle with one of the eight robot masters, each with a certain weapon to use against you. Some are tricky, and a few are actually push overs once you recognize their patterns. Defeating them rewards you with their unique weapon to add to your arsenal, and they help as some of the bosses are weak against certain attacks.

Now I haven't beaten the game yet, got two more robot masters and Dr Wily. So far, its been great, it was hard for me in the beginning, since it was the first Megaman game I played in a while. Once you defeat your first robot master, it gets better. So if you're a fan of Megaman and haven't played this game yet, you should do yourself a favor and go try it out, its a great game. Only $10 on the Xbox Live Arcade and I believe the same price on the Playstation Network and WiiWare (1000 Wii points). This is one of those times where I feel that nostalgia was there at the right time. So their's my thoughts on Megaman 9.

PS. I want to apologize about saying I was gonna make another article, kept procrastinating. Hope you enjoyed reading! I'd give you a cookie, but i'm still in the beta stage on sending food through the internet.
