Oga Tatsumi, Shigeo Kageyama and Kiyomaru Takammine Are My Ideal MC Types

I do not like the main character. Rarely is the main character of a series, whether it be anime or not, is my favorite character. It's usually the antithesis to the MC or the cool funny character. In Dragon Ball its Vegeta. In Naruto its Shikamaru. In Yu Yu Hakusho its Hiei. You get the point, its usually the cool, aloof, or rage character. But every now and then, a MC comes along that I adore so much that I end up loving them more than any other character.  But its not just any main character. I don't have to relate to the character but I do have to connect to them. Now the typical dumbass MC is fine here there but I usually like characters that are more than just stupid with goals. Here are my 3 archetypes for a great MC.

The Kiyomaru Takamine Archetype
Kiyomaru from the Anime/Manga Konchiki no Gash Bell has to be one of the best MC's of all time. I'm not saying this from a fanboy POV as Gash Bell is in my favorite Manga list. Kiyomaru is smart as hell. He's nearly a genius whose also a shut in. Over the course of the series we see him grow from a genius asshole to a lovable character who cares about the people around him. I love Kiyomaru because he's the complete opposite of the typical MC but not overdoing it. He's a genuine MC that may not have goals but he works hard with what he has. Characters similar to him are: Ken Kitano, Gintoki Sakata, Midoriya Izuku, Sakura Ichiko

The Shigeo Kageyama Archetype
If you follow me on Twitter you know how much I love Mob Psycho 100 and its lead character. This has easily become one of my favorite series really quick. I love Mob because he's really simple. There isn't much to him. He has no sophisticated goals of being the best at something. He just wants to be a better person in general. He doesn't even want his powers. He would prefer to be a normal person. Despite not liking his powers, he eventually realizes that he has to use them to help others or the people he loves the most will be hurt. Regardless Mob stays a wholesome character that wants to live a normal life. Characters similar to him are: Tsunayoshi Sawada, Vash the Stampede.

The Oga Tatsumi Archetype
Oga Tatsumi from Beelzebub should be a national treasure. Despite all of the things that happened to him, he remained an aloof badass no matter what. Oga is a complete badass. He cares what no one thinks of him or what he does. He kept a small circle and did not care who was human or demon, he was gonna beat your ass. When the MC is a badass, you instantly like him. Sometimes you need that mix of meathead MC with no goals, rarely shows a soft side, and will fuck anyone up. Even if they have goals, as long as they can rock a person, they're fine. Characters similar to him are: Monkey d. Luffy, Ichigo Kurosaki, Yusuke Urameshi, Toriko.
