Kokkoku Episode 1 Review: We Want The Money

Kokkoku is the story of people with eh ability to slow down time. Our main character Juri lives a normal life as a 22 year old trying to find a decent paying job to take care of her big family. Little did she know that after potentially failing another job interview that she would soon be risking her life trying to save her brother and nephew from thieves holding them for ransom. I like this anime. The animation is decent, it doesn't go above and beyond just to tell the story but stays consistent with its color palette. The opening and ending theme are great and had me dancing along as I watched the animations which were colorful and vibrant.

I enjoy the pacing if the show. When things start to get serious the show doesn't drag on until the end, neither did it drag to get to the plot points and climax. I felt like I could actually end up enjoying the characters. The anime a a nice sense of suspense as when the villains showed up after the characters were saving their family, I was genuinely scared for what was going to happen next. For a non powered action series the action we see is handled well. Its crisp and believable. Seeing Tsubasa get wrecked when he was kidnapped had me on edge. They were pulling back no punches for him.

The story seems to be straight forward with the knowledge we have so far. There are more than just a few people in this world that have the ability to stop time. Some chose to not use it while others are straight abusing it. This attack on Juri's family once the main villain shows up is clearly about power and not the money. This was done to lure the family or better yet the grandpa there so they could effectively take him to get to his powers. The episode ends with a cliffhanger as one of the heralds is about to snatch up the guy trying to cut poor little Makoto.

I like this anime. I digging the concept, animation, art style, production, music and so on. I;m excited to watch the new episodes in the coming weeks. I don't know if I'll review them but I will be watching. I haven't been this excited for a series in a while. I just hope the ball isn't dropped with it but I'll be watching nonetheless.
