Black Superheroes: Amazing-Man I, II, and III

Amazing-Man: Will Everett

Will Everett won several gold medals for the United States during the Olympics in 1936. But when he came home, he couldn't even get a job because he was black. Eventually a world class athlete got a job as a janitor for scientist Terry Curtis. Then things go from bad to worse. Will gets kidnapped along with some of Dr. Curtis work. The kidnappers turn out to be thugs hired by the Ultra-Humanite to get Dr. Curtis research. Will was a bonus. They use Will to test Dr. Curtis work. The experiments gave Will the power to turn into any material that he made contact with. Will and Dr. Curtis were blackmailed into work for the Ultra-Humanite. Eventually they were freed from this burden.

When Will got back to Detroit he got married to his high school sweetheart and had two kids. They were going to leave and start a new life because Detroit was not a good place for black people to be at that time. Will's conscience got the best of him when the KKK started burning black people on crosses. Will put on his Amazing-Man costume and took on the KKK. He got hit with a brick from behind when he wasn't looking. This knocked him out and he woke up on a cross that was already on fire. Will broke free by turning his body into iron like the chains that held him on the cross.

Will planned a march but the march was attacked by a white supremacist named The Real American. What do you think happened? The police beat up Will's father and arrested him. Then they shot at Will allowing The Real American to beat him. This sparked riots throughout the city. The All-Star Squadron arrived in Detroit to help stop The Real American. The Real American turned out to be a robot that could make people's emotions more intense. While the police weren't thinking about shooting Will, they had the hatred in their hearts to do so and it was brought out. Afterwards will joined the Squadron to show diversity.

J. Edgar Hoover revealed Will's identity to the public because we know how he handled people involved with civil rights. This lead to Will becoming even more ingrained in the civil rights movement. There was actually a story where he was the one who found MLK's killer. Sadly, Will retired due to his battle against cancer which he lost. Both of Will's children inherited his abilities but neither became heroes. Will Everett Jr. used his abilities in the Vietnam war until he died. His grandchildren are a different story.

Amazing-Man II: Will Everett  III

Will Everett III became the second Amazing-Man but it wasn't something he always wanted to do. He blamed the powers for his grandfather's cancer as well as his father's death in Vietnam. He was extreamly glad that he was born without them. When Overmaster activated the metahuman genes in people on Earth Will realized he had the powers as well. He asked his grandfather for help but he wasn't strong enough. He sent him to the Justice League to get help. He was put on Captain Atom's team. He managed to survive by touching Atom and turning into nuclear energy. When they got inside the ship Will touched Overmaster and was able to fight toe to toe with him until the Justice League managed to take him out. When the Justice League split Will joined Extreme Justice with Captain Atom, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (Ted). The team was short lived and disbanded when they beat the Legion of Doom. He joined Justice League Europe and died on the first mission with 3 other team members. Tough luck.

Amazing Man III: Markus Clay

Markus used his powers his entire life but never had any thoughts of becoming a hero even after his cousin died. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans he took up the name Amazing-Man and helped people evacuate, and searched for missing people. He simply wanted to give the people hope, not a hero. He didn't even have a hero costume at this point. His heroics reached New York where he was asked to join the Justice Society. He refused and stayed in New Orleans helping to rebuild the city and people's lives the best he could. Eventually Superman and Power Girl just went to New Orleans. He told them he would join but first they had to remove a broken levee and help build a new one. He helped the Justice League battle Gog and Magog. He was stationed in Africa and tried to bring Mr. Terrific to church. While in Africa he was gifted a gold spear so that he always has a strong material. He stayed on to help defeat Kobra but then he quit the team. He went back to the United States. There he patrolled the South because "They don't need a hero in these times, they need hope and protection."
