Kill la Kill Series Review

It has come, it has gone. It was here, it was there, it was everywhere. You either hated it, or you freaking loved it. Yes, a week has passed since it's last episode, and I thought to myself "Thursdays are now boring again." Don't get me wrong, Naruto Shippuden still airs, but this show that I will name shortly will always be in my memories as one of the best anime I have ever seen. If the title hasn't already given it away already, it's Kill la Kill.

Kill la Kill was either really loved or really hated by anime fans. Before I get started, let me just say this kids. ENOUGH! It's an anime. Are we really still complaining and mocking every show out there? Anyways back on topic. Kill la Kill has really made me as an anime fan actually excited to watch an anime weekly. I haven't wanted to watch an anime weekly ever since Naruto premiered back on Toonami in 2005, the Naruto Shippuden premiered back in 2009 on Hulu and Crunchyroll, and that Deadman Wonderland premiered back on Toonami in 2012. Now you're reading this and saying "Danny, what about Attack on Titan?", because I have been asked that question multiple times on my Twitter. Attack on Titan was all hype. I like the show, but watching it weekly wasn't something I really looked forward to. Now Kill la Kill was, and I will miss it so.

This anime has had many pros and cons, from it's slow story in the beginning, to sometimes being confusing around some parts, to the final ending which was very contreversial. But if there's something that was kept very consistent thorughout, was it's action. There wasn't a dull episode to me. There were stupid episodes that made no damn sense, but they were still good. Now let's get to the main plot of this story, shall we?

Kill la Kill is about a girl named Ryuko Matoi who is in search of two things, the first thing being her dad's murderer, and the second thing which is the second half to her scissor blade made by her father, Proffesor Matoi. In search of both matters, she goes to a school academy called Honnouji Academy, led by a young woman called Satsuki Kiruyin, in order to find what she is looking for. This school is special because it's like a food chain. The higher ups get all the good food, while the low class gets nothing really. They also wear these uniforms called Goku Uniforms, and their level varies from zero to three. The people that wear the Three Star Uniforms are part of Satsuki's Elite Four, and Ryuko faces them in search of answers.

One day after fighting the lead head mistrees Satsuki, she tells Ryuko the whereabouts of where her father's murderer might be. This leads her back to her house, which is nothing but a burned down building from years ago. While searching for clues, she comes upon a sailor uniform made by her father. This sailor uniform was made specifically for her and is supposed to fight of Life Fibers, which are inside of all the clothes in this uniform. To defeat the Life Fibers and stop them for controlling everyone is the sailor uniform's main goal. His name you ask? Senketsu. Together, these two fight together, hoping both can accomplish what they were made for.

If I could decribe Kill la Kill in a few words, it would be fun, very interesting, and loads of action. Even the musical score is fanatstic. The producer of the soundtrack, Hiroyuki Sawano, is a genius and knows his music. There's tracks like "Blumenkranz", to songs like "Before my body is dry", that make all the moments either tense or just happy go lucky (I couldn't think of anything better to say, just go with it people).

Now the main topic that has torn the fanbase in half between this anime is the animation itself. To me, I think it's very fluid and looks like I'm watching an anime from the 90s. To most anime fans, this isn't the case. Most people hate it. Kill la Kill was made by Studio Gainax, which has produced Neon Genesis Evangelion and the most famously known Gurren Lagann, which has very similar animataion, but yet people don't like Kill la Kill? Well, everyone will has their opinions.
All the fight scenes in Kill la Kill have been made very fluently, and for the most part, it doesn't look lazy at all. I'd compare the fight scenes to Dragonball Z, since they are always high actioned and at a quick pace. There's many scenese where Ryuko and Satsuki are beating each other up, and it looks like a fight out of Dragonball Z. Many things get destroyed, blown up, and incinerated, and the animation never looks dull or boring. The second opening theme to Kill la Kill is a great example of high paced animation, where all Ryuko and Satsuki do for a third of that opening is fight, with bodies being thrown around everywhere, and blood being painted on the logo of the show. Very beautiful, very fluent, and the best animation I have seen in a while.

The final verdict for me on Kill la Kill is a 9/10. One of the best anime I've seen in a while since Deadman Wonderland back in 2012, and I will be very sad to see it depart from our lives. Hopefully one day Studio Gainax will make a Season 2, or maybe a movie of it to show the aftermath of what goes on. Kill la Kill, you will be missed, and we'll never forget you. Well, I won't because I have it as my Twitter Header. Now before I bore you anymore, hope you guys enjoyed my review! Until next time guys!
