With the rise of their films more people than ever before are in love with Marvel Comics. I just want to let you know that Marvel is shady. I don't mean Slim Shady either. I mean they're; shifty, underhanded, not to be trusted, corrupt, and sketchy. Do you get my point or should I continue? They recently celebrated 75 years, 75 whole years of being shady. I sat down and came up with the top 5 reasons Marvel has been shady so far in 2015.
1. Killing The Mutants
It's no secret that Marvel doesn't own the rights to mutants. They do however own the rights to Inhumans like Black Bolt who are artificially created mutants. In short they can easily replace mutants and that's exactly what Marvel is doing. They've been killing mutants slowly and then came all the proof that was needed. Cyclops will have a staring roll in The Uncanny Inhumans. Yeah, the mutant is trading sides. Some people have began to theorize that Cyclops may be an Inhuman. A way for Marvel to find loopholes to feature mutants similar to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Marvel, that's some shady shit.
It's appropriate that mutants were based on the prejudices and discrimination that black people face. Because now unarmed mutants are being killed at incredible numbers. I know what you're saying "That mutant had superhuman strength," but he had all 8 hands up. Killing off mutants to decrease their visibility just so Fox can garner less publicity, that's shady. Oh, so, shady. Mutant Lives Matter.
2. Hip Hop Covers
It's no secret that a lot of people believe the Hip Hop covers that Marvel will be releasing are racist. When first debuted there were no minority artist on them at all. People pointed out that it's flat out cultural appropriation. How does Marvel respond? They hastily booked 7 minority artist for the covers. Then they had the editor and chief Axel Alonso come out and say:
Some of the “conversation” in the comics internet community seems to have been ill-informed and far from constructive. A small but very loud contingent are high-fiving each other while making huge assumptions about our intentions, spreading misinformation about the diversity of the artists involved in this project and across our entire line, and handing out snap judgments like they just learned the term “cultural appropriation” and are dying to put it in an essay. And the personal attacks — some implying or outright stating that I’m a racist. Hey, I’m a first-generation Mexican-American…[Laughter]Sorry, it was not a small part of the internet community. It's clear Alonso views anyone that isn't a straight white guy a non fucking factor. The idea that he can't be racist because he's Mexican American is a joke too. Not like there's never been a Mexican-American racist against black people. Watch this clip. It's so racist and illogical it's funny. This could be Alonso's dad.
3. Breaking up The Fantastic 4
Marvel straight up ended the Fantastic 4 as a group right before the movie launched because fuck you, you don't deserve to be acknowledged. That is just petty. People hear about the movie coming up and they check out the comics only to see they weren't even a team at the time. Hell, Johnny didn't even have any powers when the movie launched. That was petty.
Marvel you're haters. Hell, when Amazing Spider-Man 2 dropped you killed Peter Parker and put Doc Oct in his place. This isn't slick. I get it, stories move on but you purposefully sabotage the film sales. You aren't slick Marvel, that shit is shady. SHADY SHADY SHADY.
4. No Female Merchandise by order of the boss
Speaking of movies did you notice the shortage of Black Widow action figures, dolls, posters, and all other kinds of merchandise? I know you did. Female heroes are really important to little girls. Already talked about that. In fact they even made a toy based on a Black Widow scene but they replaced her with Captain America. That's messed up. I know what you're thinking "Marvel makes comic books not toys. You can't blame them for that." To that I say BULL SHIIIIIIIT! Word to Clay Davis.
How can I blame Marvel? Well the order came from Disney, who owns Marvel. They felt that they already had the market for little girls on lock with all their princess gear. I've never been a little girl and I don't have any kids but I feel like some little girls would literally say "fuck that princess shit. Give me a gun. I wanna be Black Widow." I keep mentioning Black Widow because The Avenger's is still fresh in people's mind. She wasn't even on most of the team merchandise but she's not the only one.
Remember Gamora from Guardians of The Galaxy? Yeah, well Marvel and Disney don't. She didn't even get any official action figures. She also wasn't on the team merchandise. What's the deal with that? Oh, that's right. It's shady shit.
5.Where My Minority People At? Not Marvel
In July Axel Alonso was asked was why there are no black writers on any of the upcoming Marvel series. You already know I'm about to say Axel Alonso isn't shit, but I'll go ahead and tell you why he isn't shit. He responded to the question with "There are still plenty more titles to be announced as part of the All-New, All-Different Marvel, and as they continue to roll out, I believe that you’ll see the evidence of our commitment to creator representation among the creative teams as well as our characters." That sounds nice. But he dodged the question.
He basically gave us a "wait and see," well Mr. Alonso we waited. It's been almost three months at this point and close to 15 new series have been revealed. We waited for you to show and prove and YOU PROVED NOTHING. It's not even just black writers missing. You and Robi Rodriguez are the only Latinos, and Robi is an asshole too. You hired 3 Asians in total to do art or write for series. You're probably saying "WELL DC IS NO BETTER!" Except they are. DC acknowledged they were lacking on no only minority staff but characters, and now it's time for the Milestone Resurrection. DC saw their lack of diversity and did something about it. Marvel created a few segregated teams and said "there you go, now leave us alone." Yeah Marvel, you're shady and racist and misogynistic. Shameful.
Edit: Funny thing is, after I finished this Marvel announced Ta-Nehisi Coates would be writing Black Panther. They got the negro of the hour to write Black Panther. Congrats but that does not make diversity. I hope it turns out like Reginald Hudlin's run where everyone complains about how it's so racist against white people but black people keep buying it so you can't cancel it.

So instead of giving Marvel props for getting Coates(who by the way, Marvel has been talking to about doing Panther since May) while also saying you want more, you shit on them even more? Doesn't make sense. Also have you been keeping tabs on other diverse writers they brought on board?
ReplyDeleteHey, let's take a look at the list of writers for Marvel's All New All Different line https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-New,_All-Different_Marvel
DeleteWoah, Coates is the only minority writer and there's only three women writers. Marvel is doing a bang up there. Hiring one person does not make every thing better. You fell for the okey doke.
2 latino writers as well. Felipe is supposed to pick back up on the Ghost Rider book and they got another writer on the a Spiderman book. So yeah its a start but why shit on the effort they're doing?
DeleteBut none of those books have been announced. He's just under contract. I'm not shitting on them for their unbelievably slow progress. I'm shitting on them because they keep saying "wait and see" but they never "show and prove."
DeleteWhen Marvel actually does do things they want a round of applause for it, releasing press releases like they aren't behind everyone else in the category. When other publishers like Image or even DC do things they don't start making media rounds because they realize they're behind. Yet Marvel expects to be applauded for being a D- student.
The only reason for the media roll out is because EVERYONE is taking potshots at them for the diversity angle. So of course they're gonna make the announcement. When you got tons of articles bitching and moaning about lack of POC on books of course Marvel is gonna make a big media spectacle because they want to put it out there they are making the change to put on diverse writers/artists.
DeleteYou really are a coon ass nigga. Your comments on Coates are just filled with hate and jealousy. You need to wake the fuck up.
ReplyDeleteTell me how I'm a coon.
DeleteA lot of coonery going on. Did you know that Kevin F. disbanded from Marvel Exec team to be able to put female characters on merch???
ReplyDeleteYeah, that literally happened on THE LAST DAY of August. Him being removed from power is literally the only change that has happened. I'd love for you to tell how I'm being a coon. So I can shoot you down on that one too.
DeleteI guess the coonery is real Darrel lmfao
ReplyDeletePlease don't encourage the foolishness lol
DeleteIsaac "Ike" Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel, is a big part of the blame in the lack of diversity. Look him up when u get a chance if you haven't already
