Tyler The Creator's Grammy Win Carries a Lot of Weight and Emotion With It

I am a huge Tyler The Creator fan. I've been one since 2012 when I discovered "She" one lonely night in the dark.  Never thought the day would come where he won any award outside of "Best Music Video" or "Best Musical Performance" would come. That man went and got himself "Best Rap Album" for his latest albums "IGOR". I am fully ecstatic but the win isn't one just for Tyler, but for all Black artist who are in the Pop genre.

Tyler has made Rap/HipHop music his entire career but with the release of IGOR he's done something different. Tyler has always sprinkled Pop and R&B joints throughout his albums but this venture marked new beginnings as IGOR was primarily Pop with R&B and HipHop sprinkled on it. The album should have been in the Pop category. That's not to ignore the other musical elements of the album but it is primarily pop. Tyler is right, when Black artists make Pop music, it just gets thrown in the HipHop and R&B section to drown. Luckily in Tyler's case, IGOR swam to shore and grew legs.

Despite the misplacement, Tyler deserves the win, yet the glory isn't just his. He's going to share that glory will other Black Pop artist who were robbed of the chance to taste the sun and future Black Pop artist who will hopefully get the seat at the table they rightfully deserve. There is more to Black Music than just R&B and HipHop/Rap. Black artist are stretched over all genres and deserve to be placed where their feet lay. The future is rip with new Black talent and with this when and Tyler's speech, more Black Pop artist will get the respect they deserve.
