My Top 5 All-Time Least Favorite Wrestling Title Reigns

Throughout these past two decades that I’ve been watching wrestling, I have seen many wrestling champions like Booker T and R-Truth. I have also seen many title reigns that I just couldn’t stand at all because they were boring and were filled with burying young talent along the way.

Here are my top 5 all-time least favorite title reigns

1. Brock Lesnar - I used to be a fan of Brock Lesnar when he was a young dominant full-time wrestler during his first stint with WWE from 2002-2004 where he even had a game named after the catchphrase “Here Comes The Pain”, but the fact that he’s a part-timer and a Universal Champion that’s almost never there not only has diminished the significance of The Universal Title, but it’s quite obvious that his true passion is for MMA, not professional wrestling. The reason why WWE deliberately let him hold The Universal Title for so long is not only an insult, but another burial to CM Punk’s WWE career and his 434 day real memorable title reign. Through his numerous no-shows since 2012, he’s made it clear that he doesn’t care about the people he hurts in the ring, the wrestling business, nor the fans because he’s only in it for the money. And the fact that he’s not even going to appear at Extreme Rules and Summerslam makes his title reign undoubtedly my all-time least favorite title reign.

2. Triple H - From December 2002 - September 2003, Triple H had one of the worst and most boring World Heavyweight title reigns of the decade throughout that period because through the usage of backstage politricks, he often buried guys who could’ve been been big time main event players like Booker T, Goldberg, and RVD. His title reign at that time was so difficult for me to fathom because it was far too long, boring, and the burials that came along with it.

3. John Cena - One thing that I hated worse than his cheesy, stale, and boring pseudo-rapper gimmick was his boring and awful WWE title reign from September 2006 - Sept 2007 where he had many lackluster title matches combined with the burials that came along the way and this came at a time where he was being forced and shoved down the throats of fans like current golden boy Roman Reigns is today. The fact he had everything handed to him through backstage politricks throughout his career including 16 World Heavyweight titles makes many fans personally hate John Cena.

4. Hollywood Hogan - During the rising popularity of The NWO storyline, Hollywood Hogan was  arguably at the time the most hated heel in wrestling and while he, Nash, and Hall often terrorized and ran through the entire WCW roster during the late 1990s. Despite that, Hollywood Hogan’s first title reign as a heel from August 1996 - August 1997 was that good because he would often open up Nitro with 10-20 minute promos, he was very limited in the ring (he was more technical in NJPW), and he was notorious for being a ruthless backstage politrician that refused to put younger guys over that would’ve helped them become bigger stars not just in WWE, but especially during his time in WCW.

5. Undertaker - The Undertaker is without question one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of wrestling. Despite all the things he has accomplished throughout his illustrious wrestling career. But his title reigns however were not so great because they were mostly lackluster and mediocre opponents he had during his title reigns.

The Conclusion - I also feel that a great title reign should be determined by how good the feuds and opponents are, not by what the bookers and writers think.

  1. The reign of terror of the Man w/ 3 Hs from 2002-2005. Yeah, that was so boring to watch and why I didn't watch RAW during that time. That was a terrible reign. I also don't like Brock Lesnar's current reign as Universal Champion as it's just lazy. I'm not a fan of the reign last year from the Punjabi jobber because he didn't look credible as a champ nor did he really do anything to make everyone take him seriously. I would also add any reign of the WCW world championship from the Man who is Fond of Slapping Nutz and Diesel's 1995 reign as WWE champ.
