Flame of Recca Volume 29 Review: Joker's Wild

Chapters 279-289

The gang splits up for the final battle. Domon runs into Hiruko and on paper this is a great match but its weird. Domon was able to absorb the madogu's power from the nose ring Kagero gave him earlier on in the series. If so his body should be harder than stone meaning no matter how strong Hiruko's blood weapons are. That was a long time ago so I'm not surprised that the author may have forgotten because I did as well. The first time Hiruko slices Domon was weird but I'm guessing this was done for Domon to land his hit because later in the fight he's easily withstanding Hiruko's attacks. I don't know why Fujimaru told those lies. Domon is not a top battler, all of his fights are terrible and this one was no different. Also for the second time this arc, Hiruko has willingly lost a battle. He is a scrub that doesn't deserve the Madogu he possess.

Kaoru runs into Joker and he wants to fight. Too bad they run into Kirito and now Joker is pissed, maybe even more serious than he usually is. Kirito tells us her back story which made me realize, most of the villains since volume 15 or so, have had better reasons, or an intricate backstory as to why they fight. All Hokage has is, to protect Yanagi. Its boring. The villains are more interesting than the heroes and that isn't a good thing. A Good villain will always make the readers feel some form of anger or maybe even joy but when the villains are flat out more interesting than the heroes, something is terribly wrong.

After another mediocre fight, Kaoru and Joker win only for Kadotsu to randomly show up. He impels Joker, Joker impels him, and then Joker creates a black hole which swallows both of them. It was quick but sad. I gained more respect for the both of them but it sucks to see Joker die. But finally, we got some real consequences in this series. OF all the people that could have died, why Joker? Kurei was even mad to learn of his death. Kurei's going to kill everyone now.

This was a decent volume. Once again the fights are John Cena level so there is no reason to talk about, Fujimaru is a liar. Joker, a villain is one of the few more interesting characters than the main heroes. RIP to all the real one's we lost this volume.
