Poem: BackHug by Garser Dismuke

There’s feeling I get when I look at her back. Skin smooth yet hot from being in the sun. I want to hug her but she seems so far away like the stars shining in space. I can tell she’s happy from behind. Cheeks wide like she’s eating watermelon. Her head turns, she smiles at me but I know. The sun is about to set and you can smell the ocean from the food stands. She stares vastly into the endless ocean, Hands on her face as she enjoys the view. I know. I see the twinkle in her eyes. She feels loved right now. Love she never felt before. The sun and ocean bathe her in their essence cleansing her of her nightmares, I know she's not coming home with me no more. She belongs to the world.
