Growing up my favorite wrestlers were The Rock and Booker T. Needless to say I've watched a lot of The Rock's movies although you may know him Dwayne Johnson. I'm also not one of the people that hates Kevin Hart's comedy. So, when I found out they did a movie together I figured I'd sit down and watch it. Over a year later, but I still did, and it's trash. Just pure trash. The Rock is really hitting 50% with these movies.
The film follows Bob Stone (Dwayne Johnson) and Calvin "The Jet" Joyner (Kevin Hart). Bob was bullied throughout high school which culminated in him being thrown naked in front of the crowd at an assembly where his classmate Calvin was accepting an award. Calvin gives Bob, whose name was Robbie Weirdich at this point, his jacket to cover him. Robbie never comes back to school. Calvin fails as a college athlete but marries his high school sweetheart and becomes an accountant.
Robbie changed his name to Bob Stone and joined the CIA while developing a love for ponies. One day Bob's partner dies chasing a mystery man known as The Badger. Bob enlists Calvin and slap stick comedy follows along with some okay action scenes. All while Calvin tries to save his marriage while lying to his wife about what he's doing.
Aaron Paul (Need For Speed, Bojack Horseman) and Danielle Nicolet (The Flash, Saints Row) were two of the top billed cast members for the film. They probably had a combined twenty minutes of screen time. Also Arron Paul does say "bitch" a lot because he's still eating off that Breaking Bad fame.
The actions scenes are either fun such as the shootout in Calvin's office or they leave you asking what the fuck is going on such as the motorcycle assassin. Seriously, he shows up and does a bunch of motorcycle tricks that don't really hurt anyone. Calvin steals the bike and rides off, but we never actually know how the fight ends. There wasn't any point to that scene other than motorcycle tricks. Also, they say the CIA is sending all their top assassins but only motorcycle guy goes with his entirely ineffective method of killing.
I will give them props for properly displaying the accurate life of a black person in corporate America. You train someone and then they get promoted over you the moment you finish training them. Even when you're still the most Your completely inappropriate and mediocre white coworker constantly acts a fool and they throw a fit because you look at one non work related website. Maybe I wouldn't be looking at job positions if you would just...I'm sorry, that got personal. Calvin was looking at porn, he should have been reprimanded for that. Everything else still stands.
There's not really anything good I can say about this film. Kevin Hart and The Rock did Kevin Hart and The Rock things so it's what you expect. It's not even the worst movie I've seen this year so I can't even really just destroy it because I got what I expected. A bad movie that gave a me a few chuckles with how bad it was.
