Album Review: Deuce - Invincible

You ever been excited for an album then extremely disappointed before you reach the half way mark? Then you don't hear anything that can bring back joy? Deuce was one of the founding members of Hollywood Undead and left to pursue greener pastures on his own. It worked out well for his first album Nine Lives. He dropped his second album called Invincible and if we're being honest, which we are, it was horrible.

There's so may problems with this album. Let's just start with the instrumentals for this one. They're pretty generic and most of the guitars on the album sound the same. On top of that, this is a professional album but all of the instruments just seemed muffled. The vocals are nice and clear, but the actual instruments just sound like you're under water or you've got ear muffs on. It's just like he's not even trying which is sad because his first solo album didn't have any problems with making sure it was all cleaned up before release.

Lyrically I can only ask, what the fuck happened? Previously on his albums there had been a wide range of social commentary, there's none of this. Money, clothes, hoes and anger, that's all you're getting with this one. He also says some really stupid stuff. It's like, let the Hollywood Undead thing go. You don't need to diss them on every project until the end of time. There's also the fact that he calls people faggot, a lot, on this album. But, on his first album he let Jeffree Star ruin multiple tracks by rapping about sucking dick. It's not that Jeffree was rapping about sucking dick, because lots of rappers have rapped about sucking dick, it's just that Jeffree is a horrible rapper. Then again Jeffree is also a gay man and a cross dresser who hates transgender people and racial minorities so I guess you could be friends with Jeffree and not like gay people. I'm off topic, it's just weird that black rappers get this label of homophobic but you don't hear black rappers calling people faggot on every other track.

"Bad Attitude" is probably the only good song on this album. I'm not even being an asshole, I've listened to it three times and I'm never coming back to this album. It can sit in the box next to J. Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only. This album is horrible and it seems like he just threw together a bunch of loose demo tracks to meet a release date or something. It doesn't even sound finished in most parts.

Deuce throws a jab at Hollywood Undead on this album by stating "What happened to rock and rap and these white boys tryna backstreet they asses," because some would say they've gone pop. Here's the problem, they still know how to make music that doesn't burn your ears. Even if it is more electronic now, at least they're still putting effort into their music and not trying to coast on some one sided beef.

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He also plays classic arcade games on The Cabinet. You can also check out his playthrough of Sleeping Dogs or Skyrim

  1. Maybe you should wait until the OFFICIAL album comes out. This album, Invincible, was postponed for unknown reasons so he decided to leak it on his own WITHOUT mixing and mastering it. Give a little insight before you slander such an album, you prick.

  2. You think it sounds like a bunch of demo tracks? well maybe because thats what you are hearing, He leaked these songs to his fans because he knew it would be a while before his label was going to officially release it, since this album was leaked in late 2015 he has been spending his time re-mastering these tracks + working on a lot more songs for the Official release.

  3. Did you even listen to Thank You or Do You Think About Me, no anger or dissing at all or sex even. Thank you is straight up piano and vocals and him giving thanks to fans while Do You Think About Me is a sad break up song that is amazing especially lyric wise. Most of the diss songs you here are directed at the label for not releasing his album, only one song and a couple of lines of lyrics are directed at HU. As far as mixing being shitty goes well let's see, IT HASNT BEEN DONE YET. It was a free leak that wasn't mixed yet so obviously that will not be good. Do some research first asshole.
