Why is Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy Not Creepy?

Since July of 2016 Marvel has been hyping the idea of a Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy relationship. For a while now I've been telling everyone who would listen that this may be one of the weirdest and stupidest things Marvel has done in a while. Yes, stupider than having two consecutive events spoiled due to delays. There is really no reason to want this relationship.

Let's start with the fact that Miles would be breaking the bro-code. You can not under any circumstance date your bro's ex. I don't care if in this universe Peter is your mentor and it's an alternate universe Gwen where Peter is dead in that world. It's a serious bro code violation. You can't just violate the bro code like that.

But, in all seriousness this is creepy. Think about Miles debuted at 13 and there were two 8 month time skips, that's a year and a half putting him a 14 and a half. But Gwen debuted at 19 and a college student. So would you really want your 14 year old high school freshman dating a 19 year old college student? That's just creepy. I know some people are yelling "wait, they aged Miles up to 16." That's fine, Gwen goes out to bars now so she's at least 21. So I ask again, is it not creepy for a 21 year old college student to be dating a 16 year old high school student?

Remember when Wolverine was trying to steal a teenage Jean Gray away from a teenage Cyclops? Was that not creepy? Why is it any less creepy when Gwen does it to Miles? What about Charles Xavier always having a crush on Gwen? Everyone agreed that was creepy and one of the strangest stories in comic history. Remember how Batman and Batgirl were a thing in the recent Killing Joke animated film? That shit was creepy right? So why is it not creepy now?

Okay let's look at a real life example. In January of 2016 Slate ran an article listing over a dozen cases in which women received lighter sentences for similar crimes as male offenders. Additionally WGN listed over two dozen women who had relationships with underage male students but received no jail time. In one case the Judge stated that the 14 year old boy "probably had the time of his life," and "no harm was done." Another judge was quoted as saying "if this were a male teacher I would feel obliged to apply a lengthy sentencing." Clearly, more people aren't taking this serious because there's this idea that men can't be raped.

Despite that, this relationship would be a Class D felony in New York where the story takes place. So, even if you don't agree with me. Even if you don't think it's creepy, that's okay. It's still a felony and Gwen would be required to register as a sex offender. So I'm asking one last time, why don't more people find this creepy?

  1. I totally agree with this. It might be how Black kids are seen as older than what they are by people who aren't Black.

I was really pulling for a Miles/Kamala relationship.

    1. I hadn't even considered that a possibility of why people would just accept it. But, it makes complete sense. As for Miles and Kamala, I can see it. She's already sneaking into his bedroom randomly

    1. Did I lean on bro code as fact or did I use it to make a silly joke then point out actual issues with the idea?

  4. 16 and 21 is not a big age difference. ONLY in America are you suddenly a rapist if you're 19 and have sex with your 17 year old girlfriend. Ahit is ridiculous and dumb. Glad that in Ontario Canada at least age of consent is 16.

  5. This being said though, Miles/Kamala is the better ship

    1. Yes, and that is why I still totally ship them, after all, like you said, in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" both Gwen and Miles are in high-school.
