Center Stage: CL

Korean music is spreading its influence and it’s becoming more popular worldwide. Even close friends of mine are getting into it and ask me if I listen to so and so. However, I was never that big on K-pop etcetera. Not to say I don’t like it, that’s false it’s just not something I look for. If Nya happens to stumble across a Korean band he likes then he listens to them. On that note, let’s talk about the fierce, sexy, talented leader of 2NE1: Lee Chae-rin aka CL.

Also known as Faith Lee (English name), CL was born February 26th, 1991. Able to speak four different languages, Chae-rin was born in Seoul but mostly raised in Paris and Tokyo. Being born in Korea she’s fluent in Korean, learned French in France and Japanese in Japan. She went to American schools as well where we can assume she learned English. She comes from a family of scholars and also excelled in her academics before making her debut with YG Entertainment, as the leader of 2NE1.

The super successful K-Pop band consists of CL, Minzy, Dara, and Park Bom. As much as I’d love to talk about them all, today we’re only here for the lovely CL. CL has had several solo songs such as The Baddest Female Alive and recently Rolling Stones mentioned her as the hottest female rapper in Korea as well as one of ten artists you need to know. She’s a rapper, singer, song writer and dancer, the whole package. She’s glamorous, kind, fashionable, and multilingual; the perfect bundle for a true entertainer.

CL’s music happens to be different genres and sometimes a blend of multiple. She’ll be making her U.S debut this coming fall and has already released two songs: Dirty Vibe and Doctor Pepper. Dirty Vibe with Skrillex, Diplo and G-Dragon for an EDM, hip-hop hybrid feel. Doctor Pepper is a trap song featuring Riff Raff and OG Maco. In these songs she shows her ability to make music for North American audiences. The two songs cater to different yet similar musical tastes. Her debut overseas will be marvelous and one for the history books.
