Vampire Princess Miyu OVA Series Review

Today I’m reviewing Vampire Princess Miyu (The OVA Series) given to me by AnimEigo. I would like to point out that the OVA series maybe completely different from the TV series. Miyu is a vampire that hunts down shinmas. Shinmas are creatures that are a mix between god and demon. Miyu is responsible for bringing these shinmas back to the darkness. Miyu also has a shinma side kick called Larva that helps her hunts down other shinmas. Another main character named Himiko who is a spiritualist crosses paths with Miyu and is convinced to know more about her.

I was sent volume one of this series which only consisted of two episodes. The whole OVA series only consists of four episodes and I seen enough to judge this series as a whole. The first episode really confused me as to terms of the story. Compared to the other anime that I have seen, the first episode of Vampire Princess Miyu didn’t explain much in terms of characters and what was going on in the story. I just tried to absorb as much information as I could from the first epsiode but that didn’t really help much. It wasn’t until the second episode that I understood what really was going on to a certain degree.

This anime is from the 80’s so the animation is pretty old but still nice to look at. If you can appreciate old animation then you’ll be fine, I actually liked how the series looked. The soundtrack was ok, this series is in the horror genre but the music didn’t give me the impression that this was an actual horror anime.

I honestly think that if you’re into old anime then you should check this series out. If you could look past the confusing first episode that didn’t really explain much about the story and still be intrigued then you’ll be fine. I feel like this series is something that you would watch if you had some quick time to kill or if you wanted to watch a series that was extremely short. I’m giving Vampire Princess Miyu (The OVA Series) a 7 out of 10, not a bad series but not something I would recommend to everyone.
